Hey Philly, we'll take him for Nick Young and a future 1st round pick.

My thoughts exactly. I feel really bad for him, but the job was his for the taking. Either he did not give his best during the second workout, or Russell just made a better impression. BTW, I would love to see a video from this workout.

He should man up and try to show the Lakers and all of his critics that choosing Russell over him was a mistake. Throwing the jersey of the team that has chosen you was lame, irrespective of how unhappy he is with being drafted by them (even if it's the worst franchise in the NBA).

Man I feel bad too because he's going to get over-analyzed like this from now until he finally leaves Philadelphia. He wanted to be a Laker. I'm sure really didn't want to go Tankadelphia. This to me MIGHT mean he's angry and upset about going to Philly, but it could just be he had other stuff on his mind too...

    Rough situation.

This is what finally reconciled the pick for me. I wanted Jah bad. Real bad! But the reality is when the Lakers saw him up close, they must not have seen enough from him. It's not enough to want to be a Laker, you've got to show out every time you get on the floor. I think maybe he got comfortable. Maybe he felt like it was a lock they'd take him because it was a great fit. Maybe he didn't give everything he's got in those workouts and that's on him.

We picked the guy that was most impressive to us over the season AND individually. Jah didn't bring it enough and maybe it was an indicator of who he is as a player or maybe it was an indicator of who he was just at the moment. Either way, Russell brought it and impressed everyone. In fact everyone in the NBA circles never STOPPED being impressed by Russell. He might be the first Laker that ESPN has liked since Kobe wasn't cool anymore.

But will he be ready for Kobe's 12 foot missiles? [IMG]

I saw some point of view footage the other day from camera placement and mic right behind where a receiver was catching like 25 yard bullets from the QB while cutting across the middle. It was frightening how hard that ball was coming in and the painful little sound he made as he caught it.

What happened to Philly? They were my most hated team in the early 80s, a team I feared in the Finals. Now they are a joke of a franchise that the league should take over.

    :D

Nah he practiced against some other stiff. Another rookie prospect. Apparently the other kid didn't just compete with him, but beat him in the one-on-one workout.

No it was an actual report. The kid had a weird name so I can't remember it, but basically they brought Jahlil in to work one-on-one with the kid. Apparently the kid "held is own and then some" against Jahlil in the workout. I don't the other kid got drafted, but I can't remember his name so who knows?

On the flip side, Russell crushed his second workout. I've been on record as saying I hope it all didn't come down to the second workout for the Lakers to decide their pick, but it might have for Jahlil. If Jahlil dominates the workout, then I think the Lakers hesitate. Instead, the workout just confirmed what they were already thinking: go with Russell.

Especially that one that has spin on it!

At first I wanted Towns, but then had to accept we'd get Okafor. I talked myself into that pick. Then we didn't get Okafor I was kinda like "What the?" But after spending four days obsessing about this pick and hearing MItch's reasoning for selecting Russell and watching the videos I am more like this:

I am totally on the Russell hype train!

Yeah I mean I don't know if he was complacent or thought him coming here was a done deal or what. I mean we saw him dominate in college, his post game is translatable to the NBA, I don't get how he wouldn't crush a workout and maybe THAT is what did him in.

Oh well... That's why Mitch and them get to watch these kids up close and we don't.
