Nunn has a great chance to start. I’d like to see Bryant instead of Jones just for spacing purposes. A lot of this comes down to how AD shoots, it lethal shooter made AD into a 35%+ shooter - we’d be golden. Otherwise we’ll have a degree of spacing issues in that starting unit.
I don’t love the idea of Nunn starting, mainly because of defense. I’d say I prefer the idea of him off the bench, but then I think about it and that doesn’t make much sense either. Beverly, Nunn, Walker? Too small. Still, I’d probably prefer Reaves starting for defensive purposes, but man, this is such a poorly/oddly constructed roster as it is now. Russ, Reaves, LeBron, AD, Bryant (bench, Beverly, Nunn, Walker, um.. JTA(?), Jones (where does Troy Brown fit as well?) ? That’s borderline play-in caliber, yikes.
I thought Nunn was quite a good defender in the playoff run for Miami during the bubble. I suppose we are talking about size? But Pat Bev is smaller than him and defends SG all the time, so I don't really see the issue.
i didn't love what i saw from him in preseason last year, but that was a small sample. he graded out as a slight minus on d in miami, too, though. i don't think having a small sg (nunn or bevs) next to russ--particularly if we're starting a center/AD/lebron front line--is a huge issue, though. we'll still be a pretty big team, and teams will have to really work to hunt for a mismatch against nunn, imo.
Old news …. came off hospice (well it was considered miraculous by those that saw the state he was in) …. like month and a half ago.
Lol...now there is this new obsession that everyone on the roster has to be 6'5 or better? Who in the hell came up with that one?
I'm still not convinced Ham is going to start Russ. He has a lot to prove first. I like the line up of AD, Lebron, Bryant, Reeves and Nunn. Beverly might beat Nunn out which would be okay. Barring someone having a breakout training camp and pre-season the first four seemed pretty locked in. It is actually a solid starting line-up whether Nunn or Beverly. The only weakness I see is three point shooting and I don't think that will be as bad as numbers look from last season. We will get better shots with Ham's offense. Reaves, Nunn and Beverly can all hit open threes. We seem to have a lot of bad shots last season and many with the shot clock running out. I'm staying with my thoughts about Lebron and AD both being embarrassed last year and will have comeback seasons. Russ could still get big minutes and run a high energy second unit if he is still here and buys in. If he doesn't Ham will have to sit him down. If it was me somehow I'm getting Swider and Huff some minutes somewhere. I want them comfy by playoff time. I know trading Russ would be huge and eliminate a lot of issues but we should have a competitive team as is. Ham is chomping at the bit.
oh my sweet summer child. he HAS to start russ, at least at the outset. but he may make him the first guy off so that he can come back and lead the second unit and allow some of what you're suggesting here to happen.
