I don't think any of us above that you directed the comment to are "counting on him". Cautiously optimistic .... heck yeah the guy can play, and most of those comments were directed at comments to just get rid of him (while his value is at all time low) like he'll never play again.
Okay, man. This is my FULL take: Out of all the new additions, I was the most excited about us signing him last summer. I felt like if he could have improved a little bit on the defensive end, he could have complimented LeBron perfectly. I have given too much energy over the past year to hoping he can come back- over and over and over and over again. He will make it back. I’m just done holding my breath and trying to fit him in any kind of lineup.
Really? Considering she doesn't make basketball decisions but handles corporate deals, advertising, running the highest revenue of any team in the NBA in 2021. She pulls an average of $150 per ticket, the highest in the NBA, has the most lucrative endorsement deals and tv deals in the NBA period. She's been running sports teams since she was 19 while she majored in business and graduated with honors @ USC. She's been trained by Dr Buss for decades, one of the more successful businessmen in LA. She successfully quelled a coup attempt by family when she disobeyed her dead father's request to install Jim as the Pres of B-Ball and fired his a$$ 4 years after Buss passed, bringing us the title 3 years later. She's received several accolades like most powerful woman in sports, in the NBA, from Forbes etc. she has kicked her personal liquid fortune up to 1/2 billion dollars and that after splitting inheritance with her large family and paying the large inheritance tax. Dr Buss was only worth 600 million when he passed. And you've done what exactly that qualifies you to do "a hellva lot better than Jeanie can, that's for damn sure."? Sorry, I'm calling BS.
Maybe one day, I'll be public enough to prove it to you. However, I will say this, I own a small business and I've never tried tried or needed any government assistance running it successfully. Even during the pandemic.
The Federal loan program? The Lakers returned that money. The only money the Lakers received from the government was the federal loan program. They qualified for it due to having less than 500 employees and therefore received about $4.6 million from the government's paycheck protection program. Jeanie returned the money. They haven't benefitted from any money from them.
is there not room for understanding very different conditions for the respective businesses? i like to think that i would know how to run a basketball franchise (not have a rambis), but i don't actually know what that day-to-day looks like. the fact that i've seen rambii in my own professional life makes me think: yes, just get rid of rambii. but maybe rambii don't manifest themselves in the same way across contexts. these are my deep internet thoughts.
I think she’s been as successful as she has been in part BECAUSE of the Rambii. If they were the dead weight or lepers like people seem to think they might be, how do you explain all of our success during their tenures? Kurt was the only team executive with the balls to corner Frank and ask why he wasn’t benching Westbrick. He did it in front of everyone. Threw his balls on the table and everything. trust me, the Lakers know who is really running the show.
Kurt's only been on the staff for 3 1/2 years, bandwagoned on right after we already got LBJ. Lebron and the Laker brand is what attracted AD. Success explained. And let me tell you something if you think the FO interrupting a team meeting and chastising the coach is a healthy thing, you are mistaken. There are places for that. Not saying he doesn't serve a purpose but Jeanie was fine without him. Jeanie hired Rob as per Kobe's wishes and then we started getting movement despite last offseason's Westbrook fiasco, the responsibility for which isn't entirely clear, though ultimately the GMs. Our FO hasn't been perfect but we are a mite bit better than the Jim/Mitch days and the Rambii are unclear as to their usefulness, I give them the benefit of the doubt.
If running sports franchises on the business side was so easy and if basketball operations are so simple that people on the internet can figure out what the paid professionals stuff up. What are you all doing posting on forums? I think we can all agree we’d like the lakers to be run the best possible way from both a basketball operations and business side. Go and get the jobs that you’re cut out for!
Yeah it's kind of amazing that all these billionaires who made their livings from scratch take over NBA franchises and fail like it's so easy. Remember that Russian Oligarch who owned the Nets? Bye bye. Baller has done nothing but lose money, Joe Lacob and Golden State have been unprofitable despite having damn near Lakers/Knicks gross incomes due to world-wide fans but spending too much for a medium-market team.
4.6 mil is nothing to the Lakers this is a nowhere argument. Your malicious opinion only and your point is moot as the Lakers didn't keep it. Prove the backlass. You just have something for Jeanie. Bigger difference.
The big element that makes me very disappointed with Nunn is that we basically signed him thinking he can replace Caruso. Caruso/Nunn would have been a $3 million/year difference salary wise. Caruso was willing to take slightly less than what he signed with Chicago for to stay in LA. The Lakers could have re-signed Caruso, still have the mini MLE to spend on someone else (wing depth?) and the lack of depth on this team wouldn’t be as bad as it is. This kinda stuff isn’t Nunn’s fault but more front office malpractice. They chose to give THT the $10 mil/season, let Caruso walk and use their MLE on Nunn who has produced the same amount as all of us posting on a forum last season. This year’s MLE use on Lonnie Walker remains to be seen but I’m not very optimistic on it. Does anyone else notice a common denominator between the THT/Nunn/Walker contracts? All Klutch clients. We shouldn’t be just gifting them roster spots at higher salaries than they would demand on the open market.
Yeah. I think Kurt’s around because we need him. Kurt’s taking the bullets and that alone can be valuable in a high profile organization. Ultimately, we need to find our next West or Riley but until then, Kurt’s going to be around.
