Russell is smooth but he's also got this unique tempo/rhythm to his game. I don't know if it's on purpose but I think it's really hard for the defender to read/react.

I don't see Russell averaging over 20 ppg in his rookie year...especially with Kobe on the team. Just to put things in perspective, the last time a 19-year-old rookie averaged over 20 ppg, his name was Durant...and he averaged 20.3 ppg.

Also, his projected 3P% seems low. Isn't he a shooter?

Russell is a beast. I am slowly talking myself into him more and more. But the dude ain't averaging 20 ppg. Not sure he will ever average 20 because we don't need him too. Randle and Clarkson and him can all average 17-18 and we would be in fantastic shape. Durant will average 26 for us. ;)

Yeah I know his numbers will be lower on this team. The rookie stats above are projected based on CP3's number, meaning if Russell were drafted by the 2005 Hornets and played there

Timmy had a pretty decent jumpshot in college. Okafor took less than a dozen jumpers outside of 10ft. (at least thats what I read)

I think his shooting percentage may be a bit higher with the Lakers. Russell has more weapons around him than Paul had in his rookie season.

I posted this comparison because Byron was quoted saying "Just starting right now, coming in like Chris Paul when he was 19, 20 years old, I think he's on that level, from what I've [seen] so far at the workouts."

By the way, I would be disappointed if Russell doesn't have a career on par with, or better, than Chris Paul. That's what it takes to have your name hang from the rafters, and justify being drafted over Okafor. In Mitch we trust.

Meh.... who's this Okafor person? Have you watched these clips and reactions and bent passes around barriers that this kid Russell does? [IMG] And the cool, casual ways he lands with his feet after shooting Js?

[IMG] I've stopped whining. Am movin' on......

i was never cold on him, just preferred okafor by a slight margin. he's clearly an exciting prospect. I hope all the scouts are right about his court vision being top 1%, because with that and his shooting ability, one needn't worry about any possible shortfalls in athleticism. and his size on d can also overcome any quickness limitations.

my only question about Russell is can he handle nba ball pressure every trip down. it's very similar to last year when my only concern about randle was an ability to hit a face up elbow jumpshot. do that one thing, and everything else will open up.

even without being able to be a full-time pg, he looks ginobili-ish at worst in terms of playmaking and handling (doesn't finish like young manu, though).

Watching his younger videos I think he might have close to Ginobili athleticism, abeer. He looked a little more explosive when he was younger. Maybe it's harder for him to do it against stronger competition but I think he's got better than advertised athleticism... I hope.

Its going to be a process players learning to play with Russell. Watching his highlights and such, its actually funny how players look completely shocked when he makes a pass to them, at times they fumble it or even screw up the basket. These players knew how good he was, and still couldn't believe the passes he was able to make.
