Love this kid, shot 52.8% from three in the whole summer league. Factoring in the Laker shooter curse, that would still in the high 30s, maybe 37%
I was wondering what the record was for most 3s made in the SL tournament? Was he close having made a butt load?
He’s on a 2-way deal. He and Pippen Jr currently have our 2-way contracts. Though IMO Huff should be the one with some sort of deal with us, I just don’t see it with Pippen at that height.
i'm convinced this is it, tbh. i don't see it, either. but lots of folks (both media and fans) have been pretty excited by him, so maybe i'm just missing...everything. he's quite small and not very athletic, and really not much of a shooter. he's not even a wizard in terms of playmaking, tbh. feel like if his dad wasn't famous, he'd be in europe right now, and he likely will be within 2 years. the good news is the lakers haven't been all-in just because they signed guys to two-ways. we've shuffled those around a bit the past couple years, iirc. but huff is just so much better than either swider or pippen. i wonder if his agent has been holding out for a guaranteed deal from somewhere. i think he's worth a vet min.
I’d like us to pick up Huff. He looked like an NBA player out there. Wouldn’t hurt to have one more fairly skilled big.
That reminds me of Kyle Kuzma shooting like Klay Thompson in summer league. He shot 48% from 3 in summer league, but has shot 33% during his career. So using the George McCloud curse formula, we can come up with a reasonable extrapolation of what he'll shoot in the NBA. So based on the Kyle Kuzma dropoff ratio, he should shoot 36.3% from 3 based on the George McCloud shooting curse formula. A decent percentage but not a Steve Kerr type percentage.
Am betting there's a buttload of real nice shots going down in this highlight clip which I haven't watched yet.
I like Swider and Pippen but I really like Huff and he is just what we need. I'm a firm believer in analyzing what you have first and not letting it get away. Example not needed to be stated. We need Huff under contract. This seems obvious enough that surely the FO has a plan? If we get him into some kind of rotation early and let him develop he could be useful by the playoffs. What I hate to see is not preparing a player for what you are going to ask them to do and then when injuries make you use him he isn't ready and is called a bust. I was liking Huff last season and he is even better now. He is ready for NBA minutes.
If Swider can consistently knock down shots in camp, he can make the regular season roster. The kid is 6'9 and can shoot, we can use that.
Hey Cole before you hit page 2 go have some beers with Austin about what you need to do in LeMiniCamp to make the Varsity out of the gate.
We have had plenty of three and d guys that couldn't shoot threes or play d. Might as well have one that can at least shoot the 3 and learn the d. Full time Varsity guy. Beverly and Reaves will get him up to speed.
I suppose though if we value Huff for future that maybe he should get the slot and cost control it a few years, since if we want, we can use Cole for up to 50 games. But not in the playoffs. Will be interesting how these two progress this year with this staff.
If I am Coach Ham I make my decision about Cole right away. If I believe he will be useful in the playoffs as a sniper I get him rotation minutes. He has to get comfortable in game situations taking shots with Lebron, AD and others around him. That is different pressure than practice or playing g league. It can take months for your shot to feel normal playing with legends. It may be he shoots just fine right away but I wouldn't take a chance with that. We have access to a phenomenal shooter, we should use him. He works hard on defense it will improve. Coach Ham is excited about his team because he knows he has a lot more to work with than most think.
It depends on how he plays in camp and the preseason games. He's a potential Joe Ingles type of guy IMO. I mean seriously..is he less athletic than Melo right now? The problem though is, I like Huff too. A legit 7 footer that can stroke from deep. He will swat any lazy shot attempts in his area, and moves decently for a guy his size. I admit that I still have this thing for Myles Turner. However Bryant and Huff gives you a similar stretch look at 5 on offense, that we had with Gasol. I think both move better than he did, and won't be as gun shy. Cole reminds me of Kuz, a little less agility but a better deep stroke . I hope one of them claims at least a small role on this squad.
