Biggest reach in the first round.
Went a minimum of 10 picks too soon.
20 picks too early according to a few draft experts.

Don't mind the pick, but I have a huge problem with where he was taken. At the very f***ing least, trade down so it's not guaranteed money.

That's my only issue. I can't say I'd even heard of him before, I'm pretty sure he was still going to be there at 34, or later.

I understand the context but I'm with Doc. The only way this goes away is if he owns it and goes to Kobe honestly. He was 19. I said a ton of dumb stuff at 19 years old.

I don't like it either but we're stuck with this kid for at least two years. We better get our heads around this.

I'd definitely be disappointed if they didn't see this tweet until tonight. That's an oversight on their part.

I would pay good money to watch the first practice when he tries to guard Kobe. Blood on the dance floor.

Good mature kid now, Really impressed with his humility and poise during his interview after the Lakers workout. I think he could potentially be a very nice defensive player find for the future.

I'm thinking he was making this tweet as a joke but it's a bad one. Cause that tweet was in 2012. He praises Kobe that same year and so on.

That makes some sense. Awful joke though. He should still own up to it.

This will be a big deal come training camp. The media are like wolves who are aware of this and run with it all day. Will Nance accept responsibility? I believe he will and it will blow over. Chalk up to missteps of youth.

I can't wait when we draft Alvan Adams Jr. or Pace Mannion Jr.

Not very happy with this pick. RJ Hunter would have been the steal or Kevon Looney (even if red-flagged).

But whatever, I'm not too happy with Russell ahead of Okafor either.

    Brown I'm fine with.

Kobe has shown time and again he can play with guys who dont necessarily like him as long as they play hard and bring it. Practices will be interesting to say the least but as long as Nance owns it we will be fine.

I don't think this has a happy ending. Accusing someone of being a rapist, especially the face of the franchise for 19 years, isn't something you just sweep under the rug. Even Mitch said that he's gonna have to sit down and have a talk with him and his agent to understand what he meant by it, which shows they had no idea about this. But, that's exactly what our front office gets for being cute and reaching on a late 2nd rounder.

Yeah, still not getting this pick with a guaranteed contract. Buy a late 2nd rounder and you can have plenty of time to see if you want to keep him, but this way you have to keep him. Better players were available from what I could tell, even beyond our pick at 34.

The FO knew about the tweet ahead of time, and Mitch said that they (Nance and Kobe) will have to work it out.

It does seem like it was a (bad) joke.

I doubt they knew, despite what they said. How hard would it have been to say, "hey, we're thinking about drafting you, but we can't with that Kobe tweet. Mind deleting it?"

Who was advising him? He worked out for the Lakers, made a good impression, and STILL left the tweet up???? Joke or not, such a sensitive subject. Egg on the FO folks faces for reaching and missing this.

If he isn't a Laker fan, he's just doing what every other 19 yr old kid does. I would venture to say that 60-70% of the people that make the Kobe Rapist comments don't believe it. It's just a cheap insult to throw at him since you can't really attack his 5 rings. This is a total non-issue to me.

The more I read about this kid the more I like the pick. I'll admit, when his name was called I was scrambling on my Kindle to figure out who the heck he was. But reading more on him, I like him. As for the guaranteed contract people are complaining about, just stop. He will be making less than half a million more than a minimum cap hold. I really don't think that will kill us, and the contract is only guaranteed for 2 years. The fact that the front office reached for him actually makes me more confident in his abilities, it was even a reach. There's stuff saying he was rising fast draft boards. If all he does is come in on the wing and play good defense, it was a good pick...since we have literally NO ONE who can do that. We don't even have a sf that plays "fake hustle" defense.

Could he be our version of Draymond Green? Guy who does little bit of everything? We picked Russell who is very Curry like and now Draymond??!!
