yeah, he's going to pout if we bench him. but that's his role on any functioning team now. it's going to be a tough summer.

i think, without a doubt, this is the worst trade in Laker history, we lost a lot including our contender status, as early as the preseason.

yeah, it killed the last two years of lebron in la, and if we have to buy him out or trade for other long-term deals it might impact our ability to retool around AD, effectively wasting whatever is left of his prime. it also cost us 4 high quality rotation players, three from a title team, all of whom had productive years ahead of them on reasonable contracts.

    just ouch.

I can’t think of any other Lakers trade that comes close to this one in terms of negative impact. Racking my brain but nothing else compares. I hated to lose Eddie Jones but the fact is we won the championship the next year without him.

I guess the Shaq trade is close? That was terrible and traumatic especially seeing him win with D Wade the next season. But we did finally right the ship and pulled out two of our own with Lamar Odom playing a big part in both. Of course the Shaq trade was basically out of necessity and Russ was purely by choice.

the shaq trade was terrible on paper but it's safe to say the lakers won that deal in the end. of course shaq won a title in 06 but the heat did nothing after that and he was traded to phoenix a couple seasons later. superstars really never fetch an equal return anyways (especially in shaq's case where he was only willing to re-sign with a few teams)

grant was just a toss-in, but odom/butler was a solid return. i hated the butler trade at the time but i understand why they did it, plus kwame's contract ended up coming in handy to acquire pau

Nothing comes close to this, and hopefully in the future, nothing will as well.

Yeah that’s Shaq trade was bad, but that’s usually what you get when you are forced to trade a superstar and have little leverage. That team was still on track to make the playoffs before Kobe got injured and missed all those games though, so it made the team good enough to remain somewhat competitive in the West. Then as mentioned it let us trade for Kwame, which let us trade for Pau, so not all bad. But I suppose if we had more leverage Shaq might have been tradable for a player that helps Kobe win right then and there, so yeah not the best.

As of right NOW the Russ trade is the worst though, but I guess in this line of thinking can possibly be upgraded if we are able to trade him in the off-season for anything of value that leads to some success. But this year is a waste, a wasted year of LeBron’s career.

yeah, shaq trade was standard fare for a superstar forced trade. honestly, we got two young allstar caliber players out of it, which is better than what most teams get in such trades. and shaq had, like, 1.5 good years after that. it was good enough for a ring, so miami's move paid off.

    1. i would have believed this statement as late as august of this year. not now.
    2. orlando doesn't want to stunt the growth of suggs, anthony, or even fultz would be my guess.
    3. i wish it would happen. orlando could eat a big chunk of russ's salary. we could take back ross and they could literally eat the rest i think! would one first rounder suffice? it doesn't get us far enough under the cap to matter, but it might help us escape repeater territory while adding a potentially useful wing (and salary ballast for trades next year). oh to dream...

Love all those missed layups, missed free throws, one on three shot attempts, horrid defense. Only 18 more games of this. I hope.
