Cousins right now is better than Okafor and in the right place (aka somewhere he wants to be) he'll be a better character. When he played for Team USA he was hailed as a great teammate and a good influence.

Personally, I still prefer taking Okafor.

It's not exactly as you say. It's more like-
#2, Randle, Clarkson, + 20 million to spend
Cousins, Randle, Landry, #6 + 5 million to spend

To me the top one is better.

While trading for Kareem, Gasol, and adding Shaq in free agency. If we keep Randle and Clarkson, we'll have essentially adopted the same model that has worked so well for the Lakers. You rebuild using trades, the draft, and free agency. We keep our picks that we drafted in Randle/Clarkson that will contributors, we add free agents with our cap space, and we traded for Boogie.

Right... not a single question mark in THAT scenario.

None at all for me. Cousins would be fine.

Mark my words: if we trade Okafor for Cousins, we'll regret it. Might not be next season, but it won't be long. Cousins is the epitome of a "me" player and bad locker room guy. You can't build a title team around him. You can with Okafor.

There is no model or a blueprint. The fact that for some of our runs we did a relatively similar thing means nothing.

you could also say that we had:

Magic + Worthy + aging Kareem (no trade)

    and now we have

#2 + JS + Randle + aging Kobe (no trade here too)

that's not comparing the players, but comparing the alleged blueprint you are alluding to.

That's why this trade is not happening. The only way it happens is if Mitch gets us what we want.

We all trust Mitch right? So why would we freak out now while he's working his magic?

When it's all said and done, the Kings aren't giving us Cousins for what we want. We'll take Okafor and we'll be fine for it.

Not to mention what happened to the Lakers are highly valuing "character" in how they build their team. So much joy in this amazing last several weeks goes out the door for me if they trade the prodigy that is Jahlil Okafor for Demarcus Cousins and all the risks that entails. Ugghh!! I haven't used a head bang in awhile. Time for one. [IMG]

I hope you are right. My concern doesn't lie in the ability of Mitch to do something, rather in the pressure of the time frame that
was imposed (or self-imposed) on his boss.

You tend to do really stupid stuff under pressure. Hail Mary of sorts.

We've heard #2 for Cousins & #6 with us being hesitant to include Randle to get the deal done. We've heard #2, Clarkson, Randle for Cousins & Landry. If a deal happens it's likely somewhere in between. I still think our best bet is to get Denver involved with a S&T for Lin & #27 along with Gay & Landry that lands Sacto Lawson. Chandler, & Faried. We end up with something like Cousins, Collison, #6.

It amuses me how some of you want to abandon the laker way of rebuilding a championship team and adopt a different approach.

The fact stands that no other front office has a better track record for building championship teams than this one.The Spurs and Heat come close, but neither team built two different teams that made three straight final appearances.

I'm obviously biased, but I think we have the best management in basketball.

As it stands now, this is their first WCF appearance since '76. In that span, the Lakers have made 15 finals appearances and won 10 titles (7 finals appearances and five titles, since '00)

I'm not impressed by Presti and and the self-annointed genius down in Houston. I'll take the grey fox and his team over those front offices every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Forget the false narrative, pushed by sports media outlets, that our management isn't up to snuff. We were hamstrung by a new CBA right after handing two large contract extensions. Now that we have cap flexibility and young assets, we're ready to roll.

Last year's dry run in the free agency has made the Lakers that much more prepared for this year's free agency period. You want to see how you build a championship contender is built? Pull up a chair. Watch and learn.

And if that happens we end up with an accelerated timeline. We get two guys who are more competitive now, another pick, and we keep our main building block in Randle.

I still sincerely doubt this happens. Unless the Kings cave and take the trade WE want, we're not moving anything. Everything we heard for most of the off-season has been that we're excited about Okafor and Russell among others. I still very much believe we'll keep our pick.

Signing big time players who are quality people off the court too. You can take a chance on a bad locker room "me" guy, but not the vital cog on the team.

AKA The KINGS think they're not getting enough.

Come on ROFY, with Okafor and Randle you can't be serious in saying that either with the time frame or the question on their obvious talent, cost controlled, with what your eyes tell you.
