shhh...don't tell anyone. 40% on threes for the past 10 games, too. still uneven (couple stinkers against ny--though he helped us win that game--and bkn), though.
I think we can all agree he had great games in the most recent outings against Golden State and Portland. But if we ignore those games and look at the 10 games before that, I’m seeing his averages at 4.8 ppg, 2.1 apg, 2.0 rpg on 32% from the field and 22% from 3 during that stretch. Trade deadline has passed, he’s our guy for the foreseeable future, I’m cheering for him and hope his recent success continues. But he’s been mostly invisible for a long time. If it’s being insinuated that he’s been playing good and the criticisms about him have been unwarranted, I don’t think that’s accurate.
it doesn't naturally follow that we should pretend his good plays don't exist. anyway, this place is becoming pretty rough.
I'm a THT fan, but I try to remain somewhat objective about his game at this point in his career development. Your post proves that he was a bad shooter the previous 10 games. But abeer's post proves that he is currently on a 10 game good shooting streak. I've been saying all along that THT can develop into a good, not great NBA shooter from distance. He's not there yet, but I take the last 10 games as an encouraging indicator. Yes, it's a relatively small sample size, but 10 games takes it out of the realm of, "he got hot for a couple of games". Of course, the issue is whether he can ever sustain it over an entire season. Because a player who can hit 40% threes, drive the lane, do some playmaking, and D up with long arms is for sure worth 10 million a year. My question is whether anyone else on the roster beside Monk has a similar 10 game stat line. I haven't checked, but I am curious.
I think you’re missing my point. Abeer’s post doesn’t prove that he’s currently on a 10 game good shooting streak. The numbers show he’s only on a 2 game good shooting streak. So that artificially makes his percentages over the last 10 games look good, but in actuality he has continued to shoot poorly for the majority of the past 10 games.
Same concept. He shot lights out in the 2 most recent games. That drags up his numbers in a 3/5/10 game window, but does not mean he has turned a corner and consistently improved his shooting. Ignoring his most recent 2 hot shooting nights, his past 10 games are: 4 points, 33% from field, 0/1 from 3 2 points, 16% from field, 0/3 from 3 9 points, 57% from field, 1/2 from 3 5 points, 33% from field, 1/2 from 3 8 points, 80% from field, 0/0 from 3 6 points, 33% from field, 0/1 from 3 7 points, 25% from field, 1/3 from 3 0 points, 0% from field, 0/2 from 3 5 points, 25% from field, 1/2 from 3 2 points, 25% from field, 0/2 from 3 I'm not buying any advanced stat manipulations that try to present that as a significant improvement
people got the pitchforks polished when one 0-8 game against phx tanked his percentage over a 10-game stretch. which again, actually proves my point. there's tremendous game-by-game volatility in 3pt %, even for good shooters. but i guess if you wanna be glum... and there's nothing advanced about it. pull up 10-game samples from anyone. how many awful shooters have consecutive 3+ 3fgm on a high percentage? what does removing a player's best two games (on their highest attempt volume, i'd add) do to even reputed good shooters' stats over 10 games?
He's becoming a stud on defense. Offense is hit or miss: if he can get a little more consistency there he's on track
Credit where it’s due, THT played some phenomenal D tonight. Nice game overall. He still can’t shoot though.
He got stuck shooting some shot clock running out desperation heaves which bricked early. I think he's one of those at this stage of his career where he needs a shot or two to go in to get his confidence going. This didn't help him do that tonight
And like Russ. This place is super negative, just looking for a scape goat. The only one who misses it is Lebron
I like his activity lately on defense . Offensively he's asked to mainly be an off ball player which does not match his skills set so you never know what you are going to get from him every night
Thanks for this. For sure brings clarity to this narrative. I think you're being quite objective so I don't get why people are so defensive. He struggled again yesterday, shooting wise. But he's playing good D which he can definitely do with his physical skills. If he does that, we may live with the shooting woes. We have many scorers and are short on stoppers, so if he develops on D it would be great for the team
