He's not a starter, but he's better than anything we have on the wings right now, so I'll fricking take it. Stanley Johnson is going to be 26...still very young. Not saying he's gonna turn into an impact player...but he could turn into a solid role player. He's been BRINGING it every night...that's all you can ask for.
He’s a starter for sure with this club and has some nice skills. More valuable than Danny Green or Schroder were for his excellent defense alone. He will get better. That tough talk with Uriji turned his career around.
OK … glass half full (remainder of 80 proof bourbon ) Check this guy’s age (21), size (6’8” 230) and 6’11” wingspan with athleticism. We keep developing him, Stanley takes him under his wing …. and at some point, maybe regular season this year or by next season for dirt cheap …. he’s available for the rotation too? https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/doumbse01.html
Best move our front office made in what seems like awhile. He must really love LA and being on this team. Feel like he could've gotten a better deal after his initial 10 day with us and a better one than a TO for next season. Basically we jerked our best wing defender around a bit and got lucky he wants to be here. Now that i got that bit of front office criticism out of the way, as a fan I'm THRILLED we have him locked in, no one stole him, and he will be around next season too... hell yeah! Now we can start investing in developing him because he's not just a rental. Keep him at Handy's hip. Let's get Penberthy to work on Stan's 3 a bit. And Ariza can earn his salary by teaching him every trick he's picked up over the years while wearing street clothes as our 15th man.
Johnson? He does have quick hands and the body and good speed laterally and in the open court doesn’t he?
This was a risky manoeuvre by our front office. Glad it paid off and we’ve got him for 2 years, he adds a lot to our team at the moment!
At the moment and going forward. Not understanding the “hedging” on several comments today. But maybe you didn't mean "at the moment" to sound hedging. Earlier someone said he wasn't really a starter but (was the best we had right now).

^^^ …. hey that’s interesting in the 2 top replies to those two Marks pieces. If Nunn is still wanted here and opts in we still get that 6.2M taxpayer MLE to use regardless. Maybe we can keep them both. If the 2nd guy Ryan Parsons is correct. Though he has heard how hard we have been trying to trade him and if he’s healthy I wouldn’t expect any Lakers loyalty to factor in. Really would love to get him back this season in plenty of time to incorporate smoothly prior to the playoffs.
I'm pretty sure Nunn will opt in unless he balls out to finish the year. Stanley, THT & Reaves are under contract. Which just leaves Monk, will he take 6m? If he keeps playing this way, I feel his value is twice that. And what about adding more SF help?
What about what I said above about Doumbouya? Was joking at start but basically serious. He’s only 21. Big 6’8” or 6’9” depending where you read, with 6’11” wing span and 230lbs and athletic. Can we develop him to back up Johnson? Seems like some good potential and he’s a live young body?
I don’t know anything about Doumbouya. But I believe we have a pretty good staff who seem to do well at developing players. So if he has something he’ll get time in the G league and perform well. Always keen to have some big wings!
i'll beat my drum: if we can cut russ's contract in half, it might open up use of the regular MLE to retain monk. i think after this year, we certainly won't be atop the ringchaser vetmin list, so the more youth we can retain from this year, the better.
Yeah I think we’ve been saying this for a little while. Russ at 20m plus our youth also gives us a lot of collateral to put together a trade for a disgruntled star to go play with AD once Lebron is done. Guess who isn’t building well around their young star… Dallas.
bingo. i want all of our future picks and a couple decent young players available for 18-24 months from now, when luka, who may be a klutch client by then, demands out of dallas.
