According to Mike Trudell on the LFR podcast (before the Denver game), the morale was low on the flight to Denver and just in general.

Idk where Frank goes from here, but his days might be numbered, unfortunately.

Just been a failure of a season.

Trade THT, Nunn, Baze/DJ, 2027 1st for Turner or Grant.

You clear the roster spots to be players in the buyout market. As I said in giving those two (Thad & Covington) as examples, there's no guarantees either will get bought out. I think Covington can at least get an asset in return. But both are expiring and there's been some level of speculation that they could hit the market. The unique thing is this year is that I think there's more unknown regarding the buyout market than in recent years. Doesn't seem like anyone has a clear idea about anyone.

Quote from Vogel in the AP write-up for the sorry-assed performance in Denver:

"We've got to get back to the drawing board and get our defense right," Lakers coach Frank Vogel said. "We haven't performed well enough in the last two games on that side of the ball."

    File under: Captain Obvious Statements.

Look at the payroll. Look at the standings. Look at the No-D play in Denver. This team...how do I put it tactfully?...This year's Laker team, filled to the brim with future HoFers, DPotY guys...they umm...they suck. They SUCK. And they're going NOWHERE this year. I don't care if AD comes back. They're going nowhere and we all must wonder what the EFFF went wrong with the psyche of such a team.

It’s time to stop this small ball nonsense. It’s not working. Defense is worse, and our offense still sucks

Hypothetically, Turner is a good option for us. He provides a lot of interior defence and likes to shoot threes. Turner and AD certainly would sure up the interior defence. Then you just need one more 3&D player (Reaves). With Russ and Lebron rounding things out.

    Tough spot.
For sure not his fault that he has such a flawed roster. And picking up Bradley, Stanley and Doumboya looks like him pressuring for the type of guys he needs.
But damn we play so bad. And we were always bad on offense with him. In half court I was never convinced with him. His unwillingness to play P&R blows my mind when LeBron/AD in P&R is unguardable. Just a lack of creativity and skill, I must say

I'm pretty sure he's done this season.
I'm also pretty sure we'll get someone worse than him. If it's Fizdale I might puke

It would appear the players are completely tuned out to what Vogel is saying.

i feel like we've never had the full personnel to be a top-notch offense, and i agree that using AD as a screener more often seems smart. then again, i feel like there was some stat that we actually do this quite a bit.

i never really felt like we lost because vogel couldn't push the right buttons. most of my armchair criticism is about who should play, but there's just a lot of variables at play there, many of which we're not privy to. is deandre AD's bff, etc.

i don't think moving on from vogel is some big loss, but i sincerely doubt that a coaching change does jack squat here.

It doesn't. It's a player problem, for the most part. I mean, it's not like Vogel was brilliant this season, but I don't think anyone could have done a lot with this team. There's no chemistry whatsoever, and some guys just don't fit at all.

yeah, this is why i'm always s***ting on lue here. sorry; i know internet smartguys like lue, but results matter, too. he's had largely the same roster that wasn't dictated and disrupted by his star players, creating a situation where he HAS to play or sit certain guys. just apples to oranges. and they're not good despite their equally expensive roster. and they've had a similarly easy schedule and george was available up until recently.

just can't get on the tyronn christ train.

Monk goes back to the bench, Bradley remains. Oh Frank…

    I actually like this move.

Hopefully Ariza or Dwight gets subbed out 4-5 mins into the game then you can bring in Monk. Right now this team needs to gain some confidence defensively, I like that group he's trotting out to begin the game

First time all year Vogel actually had a pulse on how to send out the right lineups. Good call on keeping Russ on the bench for most of the 4th and letting him come in with like 3-4 mins left.

This was a Vogel game, the defensive intensity was off the charts

Other than Bron (necessity), really good balance with the minutes. Everyone was in the mid 20s. If I'm going to nit pick, I'd drop Ariza a few and let Stan eat those up too. 27 is too many for where Trevor is. I know we're trying to get him back in game shape, but it's a balance of keeping him ready for the playoffs and not running him into the ground like we did with Melo.

That's a lot more than I was planning on talking about Ariza tonight.

I’ve seen definite improvement in players defence. Melo for example is having probably his best defensive year and it makes me question what would of happened if he had a Vogel like coaching staff to get him up to scratch earlier. I also hope to see more improvement from Monk on that end too.

i really don't think young melo would have listened. monk's already been forced to sign a vet min, so my guess is his ears are fairly open, though.

I think it depends on the coach. I think he would've thrived under Larry Brown had Detoit not fumbled the draft. Vogel is a player's coach and really nurtures those relationships. Melo has been stuck with some difficult coaches like Karl and then some real duds like MDA and Woodson.
