both of these. i think people get obsessed with what guys aren't and miss what they are. stanley johnson is a rotation-quality nba player. he was billed as more coming out of school, and that was a mistake by scouts, etc. rock said pj tucker, but he has contemporaries to look at like torrey craig and dorian finney smith as archetypes for what he can do. and, imo, he filled the role pretty well in toronto, they're just well-stocked with more talented guys with redundant abilities (and more). i wanted to sign him in the summer over baze, and we need to cut baze now and sign him for the rest of the year.
Stan was a -18 tonight. Worst +/- of the game. Anybody who watched this game would know how useless that stat is. This guy was great tonight and a bundle of energy.
huh? i was watching good chunks of the game, and he looked good to me. i'd have to dig a bit to see why we were bad when he was on the floor. did he play opposite lebron's shifts or something?
he made two solid defensive plays in a 15 second span at one point, which is like one more solid defensive play than all non-lebron/AD/AB players on the roster this year!
The whole bench numbers were putrid. Melo -15, Collison -16, and THT - 7. He did play some with Melo at the 5, which is a death lineup and not in a good way.
yeah, stan was in there in the second when the grizz put adams and jackson on the floor and melo was our center. though, iirc, they didn't capitalize as much as they should have. their announcers were (rightly) pissed about it.
It's useless. The eye test shows what he can do. He was part of stupid lineup combos where Melo was targeted over and over. +/- a lot of the time comes down to if you're part of a competent lineup, or thrown out there with some BS liabilities.
thats not true, when he went to tor im sure they weren't expecting him to live up to his draft status....you'd think he'd work on his game more considering he didnt live up to expectations with Det
Wayne, Reaves, Ariza, Nunn will help the offense, I'm hoping that will help Johnson + -, because with certain lineups, the Lakers are limited offensively as of now. Heavy dose of Lebron, Westbrook and Monk on offense.
Thought he had a great second quarter featuring 5 or 6 really good defensive plays with active hands. He also had a couple nice drives to the rim the same Q. At home, 6th man. On the road, 7th-8th. Second night of a back to back, 11th man.
Notice how Lebron and Westbrook have played better the last few games, I think Stanly is taking some pressure off them on the defensive end.
It’s in your blood to find something to disagree with, even when it’s off base. Some guys can work on their game nonstop and still have their limits. And Stanley joined Toronto in the pandemic season and then was there last year when they sucked. I was very clear that guys like him don’t move the needle for bad teams but are essential to good teams. Your attempt to disagree has only provided a chance to further make my point. Thank you.
