JSM, maybe you don't care what stats say and are not looking it up. I care and will look it up:

AD is leaving a lot to be desired defensively at the 5

not sure that's what the message of that thread was, though. on that first play, melo should have been able to make fox give up the ball, but he just sort of waved at it.

the last one points out that if AD has to defend 5 out, we no longer have any guys to protect the rim. when houston did this, we were able to generally ignore russ, but when you have to account for all 5 guys beyond the arc, this is what happens.

    Not nearly good enough.

Fill in the blank: This season, Davis has been a top _____ player.

When we suck, like last night, my first instinct is to stay away, aside from speaking up against blaming Vogel to the point of thinking firing him MID season is going to make this team better ..... but my last instinct would be to scour the internet looking for "smart guys" dumping on the team too with NO realistic solutions. (Not saying AD should not be shooting next to no 3s, but Js are what he likes to mostly shoot)

not to me, the team does go to him much more than bosh/love got but hes not delivering. the giving ball to him at 3pt line or mid range has been a thing since last yr hes just not delivering now

Maybe trying to play a power forward at center and rely on him to be the sole defensive presence in the paint, is also affecting his jumper? Are folks really watching AD post up? He has one move, the half jump hook, that's cool against another power forward, it's not very effective against true bigs. To be honest though, in spite of that.. he only has 5 games this season where he has shot less than 50 percent from the field. Last night, the Knicks game and Portland are three of them. The dude was under the whether in all three IMO. He didn't look a 100 percent to me last night, his energy was low. This is with all those three's people are talking about. He's had 3 games in which he attempted 4 or more, one was last night. I'm not overly worried about his perimeter game.

For me- this is on the coaching staff. Someone needs to tell him to just stop. Unfortunately, it seems like we just have a bunch of guys who placate to everything AD and LeBron want to do.

And people wonder why we want him shooting closer to the basket.
Maybe if we had an offensive system, or ran basic PnRs, he wouldn’t rely so much on long J’s.

you're contributing his high fg% w/o discerning the his fg% for dunks/layups, those perimeter stats and what we see is legit he is and has been terrible from the PERIMETER

Shooting over 50 percent is still hitting over 50 percent of your shots though. He's been off in these last two games sure, but he was gutting it out in New York and missed the next game. I don't think he was at 100 percent last night. His jumper was actually looking pretty good to me since that first Rockets game. He still shot over 51 percent in those 10 games, while going 4 for 18 from three.

We definitely gotta run some actual plays to get him the ball inside, or at least more pick and rolls that give him momentum towards the rim.

But man I gotta say, his perimeter shooting was a HUGE part of our success in the bubble. People make the Bosh/Love comparisons, but there is a reason for that. A big that can space the floor really optimizes Lebron’s game.

I don’t want to see AD relegated to a spot up shooter especially considering he’s shooting like crap, but I also don’t know if I want him to abandon the perimeter shot altogether.

Based on his bubble success, I have to believe he’s slumping more than usual right now and will eventually bounce back in the positive direction. If he could just be low-mid 30% from 3 it would be great for us.

yeah, he's shot poorly for a pretty long time now, but people don't generally just forget how to shoot. i feel like at least some of it is we don't make efforts to get him in advantageous positions. part of that is personnel-related, too.

i don't know. i'm a big AD supporter, but both his and lebron's inconsistent effort level has been a season-long issue. i really don't want to hear from either of them until they convince me on the floor that they want to do the small things to win and not just the big things. it's like they forgot how they won a ring. it wasn't by expecting the role players to bring all the focus and fire. it was by modeling it in such a way that people didn't have an option not to get on board.

a mid range n 3s are shot, dunks and layups are not...if you cant differentiate the 2 then one can assume dj n howard are good shooters since they "shoot" 60% or better from the field
