Young kid trying to prove he's worth the contract, just missed a whole bunch of time, and seeing his team struggle including other injuries?
Vogel should not be starting him, period. He needs to get his thumb healthy. That's two ofers in the last three games. Unacceptable.
Growing pains. Its all part of his development. These moments of adversity is ultimately good for him.
It’s funny to me how fan favourites get so much slack, but the ones who have become the whipping boys don’t.
Growing pains? When some light was just shed immediately above you that the real pain might be in that he re-tweaked his thumb to some degree?
We don't need to be playing injured players. I understand to desire to play, but it's not the best thing for the player or the team.
Yeah I have to disagree with this thread title. Putting up two Ofers and going 4 of 13 in the last three games along with a bunch of bad turnovers is hardly “contributing.” If he’s hurt sit him.
Or, you know, he’s 20 years old and it’s expected he’s going to have some bumps along the way. He gets more slack to me because he missed a lot of time with that thumb and because he’s still a kid. Bradley and Russ are vets, Russ is a career star. It would be silly imo to NOT give the kid more slack than those guys, same as it would be to not give Reaves the same, this is THT’s first season with any consistent playing time.
I get that THT is 20 but that doesn’t erase the fact that his last three games have been horrible. Way worse than any games AB or Russ have played so far. Something is wrong with him. Maybe he did reinjure that thumb in the Bucks game. Something happened because he went from three great games to three terrible games and I don’t think it’s just a learning curve situation. If he’s hurt or even if he isn’t and he’s just playing bad, Vogel needs to limit his minutes accordingly. I am high on the kid and his talent. But if he’s hurting the team his minutes need to be paired back.
he's the only guy on a contract that extends past next year. maybe don't ruin him so we can lose by fewer points to the pacers in november.
Well I was wrong thinking he’d come back later than sooner, but now he reinjured himself coming back too soon. Go figure.
If it's the thumb, let it heal. He doesn't need another surgery. But yeah, last couple of games were bad.
There is no report that mentions he injured his thumb again. In fact in his post game interview, Vogel mentions that they wanted to play him more as the backup PG against the Knicks. It would strike me as odd if he reinjured his thumb and they’d ask him to handle the ball more. As to why he gets more slack, drafted players always get more leeway. There is a sentimental attachment with developing a player that people just love. It’s why even though we were getting crushed for years on end, people still wanted to develop the young kids and hated trading them for AD. I don’t have anything against it. I just think it’s important to have low expectations with developing players, it takes a lot of time.
He'll be fine. Got a good feeling he'll find a niche and play well. For now, make better decisions and hit your layups!
