With a full training camp I think he would've fit better. He wasn't used properly with the Lakers. He will have a highly productive season in Philly

It's been a hard decade for bigs. I can see how it would be hard for them to understand their roles because the game is in such a radical shift right now. Guys like Drummond are just beginning to realize that their skill sets were developed for a league that no longer exists. Not their fault but the smart guys just accept it and find a way to be effective in a role and keep a positive attitude. See Dwight. He was in the same space Drummond is now, a few years ago.

i don't know; i would agree, but the game was never very kind to bad team defenders at the center spot. plenty of teams put up with guys with bad hands and limited offensive repertoires, and they always have.

dwight was never a bad team defender, so his case is different than drummond's to me. he had to learn that his offensive skills weren't enough to warrant being a focal point (as kobe told him many years ago when he compared him to tyson chandler, which insulted him at the time and looks prescient now).

anyway, what drummond needs to do is commit to setting screens on offense and scoring only on putbacks, while focusing intensely on how to leverage his reasonably quick feet into actual defensive effectiveness. the latter has never happened, in part because instead of studying film or simply prioritizing paying attention on defense, he was working on three pointers and ball handling and such. i really don't think it's that the message changed; it's that he never received it in the first place.

putting up stats has never been his problem. it's playing winning basketball. which they did not do.

i wonder how much the injuries played a role in drummond's poor stint with the lakers. his numbers sunk dramatically during his time in LA. i'm sure being rushed into a new offense didn't help either

but like others said, stats aren't the issue with him. guy has zero bball IQ

How much you want to bet he got his a** in better shape and dropped 10 or more pounds over the off season? He’s way too young to have lost the much better quick leaping ability and athleticism he had coming out of college. Has to if he ever wants the bigger contracts again.

I dunno. If what I said is true and he’s turned back the clock some those kinds of numbers are nothing to ignore for maybe a full MLE or better from a team that needs them. Then again what was his competition here in a pre season game?

believe it was 6'8" 2nd year player precious achiuwa.

i just don't see drummond getting a bigger opportunity to showcase behind embiid than he did when he was handed the starting position with us. i mean, nobody offered him more than the minimum this summer. going from that to full MLE or better is a pretty big jump.

it's just super damning when a talent-starved team like cleveland literally pays you to go away while you're still in your athletic prime.

Meh...on a minimum deal? We should have resigned Drummond, Jordan looks horrible to me. That said...maybe he will warm up by the time the season tips off.

Don't think you can come away with any decent takeaways of a center when our PFs were shooting guards.

He's getting rave reviews in practice. I think he'll be fine in the role asked of him here in our scheme (very different scheme from the Nets).

Maybe...Jordan fell off a cliff in Dallas and has never made it back IMO. Again...a few minutes here and there...he might work.

at least jordan knows his role and won't demand a starting role or big minutes. drummond still doesn't know, i fear. so glad he's gone.

how would he have dealt with a few consecutive DNP-CDs?

everybody s*** on gasol and trez for being sour about it, but i promise drummond would have been worse. he just wasn't put in that position (should have been).
