a true alpha would have vomited on lillard, then licked the remaining vomit off of his chin before dunking from the three point line whilst being flagrant fouled by godzilla. like the MEN do it.

A true alpha would have played through it like MJ and Kobe did many times. Of course he is not at goat level but denying that he's a p****, is just not facing the truth

i know. if only professional athletes had the fortitude of most people i've met on the internet.

even people at my workplace are like, not coming in just because they're vomiting and stuff. i call them at home to yell at them about it, but they don't even pick up the phone. just beta beta beta.

Everyone wants Kobe until they have to deal with Kobe. Everyone wants MJ, until documentaries come out and then they blame him for being too self-centered. Which one is it folks?

I had a great conversation with a buddy of mine about people last night while we were watching the SNF game. There is a back and forth on whether I like people or not. It's a tennis match that you deal with everyday. Some days yes, some days no. In the end, it's usually heavier on no. Why? Because people are too predictable and boring. And in this case, we all knew, even though credible players like Carmelo Anthony said, "this is going to take a minute", people still want to burn their players and coaches and hang the stars for not being Kobe or MJ. It's a microcosm of society and it is the main reason why there is constant disdain in politics, sports and family and friends. People are massively selfish beings. Even those who think they aren't, are. Those who don't think they are, call those who aren't selfish, selfish, because they don't go with the status quo. It's a never ending circle jerk.

I could write a dissertation on here about this but I don't have that kind of time. But, most of you need to seriously step away and find things to do with your lives. It helps with coping with when your team blows. I am not saying you can't vent or get mad. But when you start vilifying people and getting personal, that's when things start to show who you really are in life. I see way too much hypocrisy in this. You all need to make up your minds on who you are otherwise I do not recommend you watch.

Pu**ies man. For the past 20 years i missed 5 days of work. Every time a close member of the family died (and Kobe) plus one day of "depression".
You guys are soft... just like AD :p

While I understand the sentiment, I do want to issue a question...

Do you think, when given the opportunity, he's been a leader and a star that can lead the franchise? In any way? And questioning if he was or can be isn't that farfetched as to warrant the ridicule, don't you think?

It doesn't matter why he wasn't. Injuries, short offseason, not enough opportunities (LOL), whatever. I don't know if he's beta or just a wuss. I can't see him being 1 or 1a. Can you?

Tough to be a number 1 at the position he played in today's NBA .

He would be if he had/added Jokic playmaking abilities and a will to kill the opponents every game to his current skills/talent.

Again there are 3 , 4 real/clear number 1 options to me in the league .

He's one of the best number 2 ever though

he carried some absolute garbage to respectability in NO for years, and did so as the unquestioned main guy (like, not close...at all...when he went out, they fell apart every time). if that's not #1 stuff, i'm not sure what is.

he came here SPECIFICALLY to not do that and people are mad about him not doing it. i think if lebron retired tomorrow, and we had a fully open cap sheet to build a team to AD's strengths then yes, that team could be a title contender. the only guys i'd take right now over him in such a situation would be kd, giannis, and luka (and lebron of course). maybe curry, though i think that's actually a tougher call, tbh (especially when the big knock on AD is durability). maybe kawhi (though...again...).

i get that fans are venting about the last year-plus not going great, but this guy has literally already done seriously heavy lifting to bring a title to this very team. and he's discussed as if he's a s***tier version of gasol.

    just: no.

It’s easy to forget since it was 2 seasons ago but he destroyed everyone in the bubble. He was so dominant and absolutely a better version of Gasol to Kobe. He was completely 1a and arguably at times equal to Lebron. He just hasn’t been the same since because of some very scary and real health issues. Scary meaning not life threatening but career endangering. Any time you start talking Achilles it’s a big deal.

Don't agree with the comparison. We are not paid millions of dollars to play basketball, it's not the same. It's a competitive sport where the best one wins and the other don't. He's paid to win or bust. Not playing hurts our winning chances.

I'm fine with him and doesn't bother me at all that he's missing games now. It's just that you came off mocking his beta signs when I don't think you are right.
Embiid plays a more dominant game than him. The fact that AD makes his game away of the basket when he's clearly a beast close to it, shows how much toughness he lacks to be the player he could be
So our standard is respectability? Damn lol he had good teams there with Rondo, Holiday, Cousins btw, that's a reach talking about garbage teams

He came to be #1. Lebron says it all the time. He was never in contention to be MVP. Can you explain why?

I don't understand. He came here to not carry the load. That's fine. How about doing it when Bron's out or when we need him to not settle? I don't know about you, but his impact is not there, IMO.

Funny thing is -- we probably are going to find out very very soon.

The reason doesn't matter. Availability is a skill. So... so far in his Lakers career he was an amazing 1b, much like Pau was. In fact, hist career trajectory seems very similar. The numbers are perhaps better, the impact isn't, necessarily.

And I LOOOOOOOVE Pau, as is well documented on this forum.

i'm mocking a) the whole "beta" thing in general, which is alternatingly sad and hilarious given most of its purveyors, and b) the application of it here.

playing on one leg or while vomiting often doesn't actually help the team. and if you're worried about availability, this is the guy you champion:

embiid shoots 4 threes a game despite being the largest guy on the floor every single game. he shoots 43.5% from the floor as a full-time center and has never played more than 75% of the games in a season.

you have got to be kidding me with this.

because his teams were absolute garbage? the one year he got the most mvp votes was the year he had half a season of cousins and the only healthy holiday season in NO.

if embiid's a franchise player, AD is one. and a better one, too, i might add.

Good lord. Minus this last 7 min appearance in Portland. AD avg 25 pts 12 rebs 3 assists and 2 blks a game. As a power forward playing mostly center. What do you guys want? The bubble playoffs was 4 teams that wanted to play small ball, because they were perimeter oriented offenses. That worked great because AD is the best small ball center in the game. Every team in the NBA isn't trying to play that brand of basketball, AD is not Kareem, Shaq or Embiid.

not sure what the bolded part means. his impact is certainly there. he's averaging 23/11 with 2 blocks on 50% from the floor, and his ability to basically switch on to anyone forces teams to go away from lots of plan As. we know this...because we won a title on the back of it.

the problem is that he's playing with the worst version of westbrook we've ever seen and a literal roster full of vet mins. ALL VET MINS! one could argue our third best player has been an undrafted rookie whose contract wasn't even a real one until the preseason.

take lebron, give him this westbrook and all vet mins who have never played together and see how it looks.

well, sort of have already! and that was with AD, too!

the early part of the year has been bad, but AD has been only a very small part of that. unless you blame him and lebron for trading depth for a star that's not yet working out.

Don't know what to tell you. He doesn't look the part. Your point on AD + scrubs works the opposite way too. Stars, with rosters full of scrubs, go on tears. They still lose, but they surely don't look like they hide.

I would expect AD to go all Ja Morant, or Booker before CP3, or Giannis. Go on a tear. Score, rebound, defend -- force your hand.

But he doesn't do that. And there is a built-in excuse for that too -- he, and LeBron, preserve themselves for the post-season.

At this rate there will be no post-season.

23/11 on 50% shooting for a lone star on a depleted roster is a shame. Kevin Love did better than that in 2013 - 2014. There were some empty, as far as wins go, stats, but he damn well tried.

Oh, BTW, those empty stats got Minnesota to finish 40 - 42 that season, with the next best player on that team being Ricky Rubio.

Wow..I guess any Ole player can put up numbers. It's amazing that the vast majority don't, being how it is so easy.
