We agree on a lot my friend, but this is one of those points where we are on opposite sides :D

Let me rephrase the question to you this way. If improvement doesn't matter, why does Westbrook get criticised for his shot selection? He is an all time rebounder, a historically good playmaker, a one man force in transition, who can also be an elite defender when he locks in. He is worth the max and has won an MVP. So why do people criticism him?

I feel like disregarding the need for improvement goes against our human nature of always chasing progress.

Life is rarely so black and white - I don't agree with you that is has to be one way or the other. Simmons is a top 20 player, but that doesn't mean he should be excused from criticism. The criticism directed at him, which should have been done behind closed doors and not to the media - wasn't wrong. And it shouldn't have garnered this type of over reaction from Simmons.

I'm not cool with any star on a max contract forcing their way out with 2+ years on their contract.

I have to say I agree with Morey. Embiid & Simmons are a championship core, they just haven't been able to put it together and get the right pieces around them yet. So in this situation you either keep Simmons or you trade him for high value that can keep you at contender status. What is the incentive to do otherwise? To get rid of a painful situation quicker? For what though, McCollum won't push them over the top, so they'll be in the same place they are now without Simmons a second round exit.

The two magic works you said; "Mccollum and a pick for Simmons is a GENEROUS offer right now." It's only a generous offer because he is tanking his value. I don't see why Morey should reward him and in turn take a step back for his franchise. Just don't pay him if he doesn't play. Either way this will be an issue come the next CBA negotiations.

Chris Paul has been on 5 teams and he's arguably the best PG of his generation.

Let's replace a guy who's crazy and can't shoot, for a guy who's even crazier and passes the ball when he's in the air 1 foot from the rim at 6'10.

Didn't Simmons say he can't play right now because his tummy hurt or something?

Man, I wish we had the cap and assets to go out and get him. One of my favorite young non-stars in the league.

I think he has IT. He really impressed me in the playoffs and he's off to a great start this season. He's not afraid of the moment. He has confidence and the game to back it up.

Honestly the Hawks are in a good position to get a superstar if they want to package a few of their young guys and picks.

yeah, gallinari's a big expiring. add bogdan and reddish, and i start listening if i have a star to move. puts them in the right salary range to take one on, too.

that said, their payroll is pretty large already.

If Philly can extract Hunter, Reddish and Bogdan - I pack Simmons bags for him if I'm the Sixers.

guessing they can't. hunter's looking like one of the league's top defenders right now.

i'd be curious to see simmons with a pg who can really shoot it, though. to me, the mccollum trade has made sense the whole time. morey just can't check his ego and get it done. philly could probably get a 1st with him, just not, you know, seven of them.

Morey accepts that offer IF ATL adds 4 first round picks, 8 seconds, and a partridge in a pear tree.
