This kid may push Ellington for that starting SG spot. Need to see more on the defensive end though.

I see why they're calling him Microwave. Looked good out there.

Don't think he should start. We have more than enough offense in our starting 5. Microwaves reheat... meaning bench role.

He was on fire. But yeah I think his best fit is scorer off the bench.

I don't know about naming anyone other than Bron, AD & Russ starters yet. If Monk fits or be it anyone else then why not? I think Monk adds a few things to a starting unit like ability to get out and run, spot up on drive and dish and make himself available as a cutter/slasher to the basket without needing the ball. I'm not saying he should start or shouldn't but to say definitely after one preseason game...? His athleticism in the starting lineup can create so many different things for the offense and the best thing about him in that starting lineup is he doesn't need the ball to be effective.

Again I'm not saying he should or shouldn't but this roster has a plethora of options

KCP was an outstanding off ball defender which I'm not sure Monk is capable of. But as you noted Monk's ability to hit the 3 and get on the break (i.e. be the finisher of plays) fits the model of player KCP was on offense. Could definitely see it.

THT is not or ever will be a catch and shoot guy. THT will be a 6th man type who can score to keep the starters from having to play too many minutes.

He kept us in the game on his own for a while there. His shooting stroke is sweet, no doubt.

I'm now drooling over an AD/LEbron/Russ/Ellington/Monk lineup. I'd actually have Russ be the screener for Lebron in these type of sets and then watch out

Nunn, Monk and Melo... I like having these capable scorers off the bench that can get their own. We struggled with that so much in the past.

I really like the idea of the punch a Monk and Melo 2nd unit would bring. Pair that with the energy of Dwight and Russ (1 of the 3 will always be in the game) and then whatever other guard you want... that's a wrecking crew right there.

    Indeed.
I'm not worried with the starting 2. I think it will go to the guy who defends better. As for the closer 2, it will be the same + who's hot/situational basketball. And in the closing lineup there's an extra spot as AD will play the 5.

I'm betting Bazemore will be the starting 2 and Nunn will be in the closing lineup. The extra guy will depend on each game between Melo/K9/Monk/Ariza

I'm with you on all of this. I think Bazemore starts, Nunn closes and that SF spot is down to whoever is hot between Melo/THT/Baze/Monk/Ariza.

I wish I had typed it out before so I had the receipts but this is what I thought we might be getting in Monk. I was happy about Nunn too, but I thought Monk had just as much if not more of an up side offensively, even if Nunn is the better defender.

I don't think James (or anyone) will be slapping Monk upside the head...
