If GS do things right, they could have a dynasty. Curry (27) , Thompson (25), Green (25). They each only will get better. iguodala found a good home so he will not leave. I'm sure somehwere along the line Green will sign a big contract elsewhere, but until then, it's a scary and deep team. and now they have a Champion confidence. Bogut/Barnes/Bench are the variables. If not the Lakers, i'll be happy to see them steal away Lebron's prime.
yeah, playing in the west will make a gs dynasty more difficult. but it's hard to see how a team in the west could conceivably catch up to them this summer. I don't expect the other top west contenders (Memphis, SA, lac) coming in with vastly improved squads next year. I suppose maybe SA if they nab gasol or Aldridge. the other noteworthy quality of this year's warriors team is the lack of major injury. they were the only team to get through the playoffs whole, and that matters. will it happen again? their depth helps, but it's not a guarantee.
Well, Klay wasn't the same after the concussion, otherwise this could have been a sweep or 4 - 1 instead.
GS might use Lee expiring contract ( 15 M ) to reduce the payroll/gets some talent back . Payroll is already at 77.5M ... then comes Mo Buckets team option (at 3.8M) , Barbosa is UFA and Green RFA. As for the West , Parker will need to become himself again/SAS to add some fresh talent to seriously challenge the Warriors ... but yeah health is a big part of a team success and nothing is guaranteed in this department for next season .... having a deep roster and blowing teams out definetely help though ...
I don't see dynasty here, but I could definitely be wrong. This is the kind of team that feels destined this year, but I could very easily see struggling to recapture this magic. I mean look what happened with the Mavericks. Those are the only two primarily jump shooting teams to win Championships and I'm not so sure it'll be easy to get back here. This Warriors team wasn't an All-Time great team. They were pretty good. It's easy to look back and forget how scared they were the first few games. Now let's see if they keep Green around and what happens with Bogut and Lee. The whole "small ball" thing is completely circumstantial. If they had a really talented Center, he'd be in the game for them at the end there. Heck if Movgov was on their team I think he'd be in the game at the end there and he's just okay. Still a great year for those guys. Nothing but love for what they accomplished. A great day for Warriors fans who really are terrific.
my theory is that bogut was playing hurt at the end. he looked terrible, and he didn't look that way in previous series, imo. i think they'll attach this year's pick (plus maybe another pick) to get someone to eat lee's last year. then they'll match whatever offer green gets in RFA and bring back the same squad (minus lee/speights plus MLE backup big).
If they can replace Bogut/Lee with a versatile PF/C a la Bosh or Anthony Davis, that is the type of player that would really solidify their success. Someone who can play defense and grab boards, but also, versatile enough to get up and down the floor and keep the pace up.
Wow.. That's a scary thought.. I don't see them getting Bosh or Davis, but they definitely have pieces to trade for a top notch Big.. Could you imagine Deandre Jordan on that team...!!!
Pretty much. They have the pieces to make it happen too. Trade Barns and Lee + picks and they can probably get Bosh or Jordan or someone that can have more of an impact on the game.
I think that's thinking too big to be honest. Bosh is an animal and I think Miami wouldn't give him up just to hand Golden State a bunch of trophies. I think something more reasonable would be going after Jordan Hill. It wouldn't take much for us to give him up because we don't want his salary anyway. Maybe you could scoop him up for cheap in the summer FA if he's willing to sign a one year deal worth the mini-MLE.
I think GS is deep enough to get it done. I'd even give up Clay for Bosh in that scenario because it would give that GS team much more balance, and Miami gets a young stud and hope he flourishes on his own like the Beard did.
Thompson would be in a good situation in South Beach... He'd be the heir apparent to Wade, the offense would revolve around him. He would be in the East where the playoff road isn't as treacherous. TBH, I don't think Thompson would want out of The Bay.
Yep plus once you get a title , some players may not be willing to make sacrifices again and think more in a " I got a title , now I want a bigger role and salary" fashion ... Green , maybe Barnes, will think this way one day imo . I can see Curry and Klay sticking together forever though .
