You keep “lying” about that. The front office tied his hands and promised the starting position to Drummond. Stop it! Vogel would never on his own have handled it that way.

Gasol had already been replaced by Trez. Why do you think they wanted Drummond in the first place? We already knew Gasol wasn't the answer. That whole promised the starting role stuff is a bunch of hot air. The guy underperformed to the point that we considered a 6'7 power forward a better option at 5. Now it's some kind of huge deal that we brought in another 5 to start? That doesn't make any sense.

I’m hoping Gasol is either so good or so terrible this season that it undeniable. No member who has posted is going to change their opinion at this point regardless of the information presented. So let’s just hope the season will sway people one way or the other.

Gasol spent time out for Covid, Slick, and came back and had to work back in shape, they didn’t make Trez start for any other reason. Same thing with you ignoring and calling it hot air what everyone knew at the time and was written after the fact of it happening that Rob landed Drummond with the promise of starting. SMH.

I'm hoping that AD is at 100 percent and dominant all season. That way it will be pretty irrelevant what the traditional 5 is doing.

To Marc or Not to Morc........is the question? Gasol has been more Morc, than Marc.

My point is Marc had no reason to complain about starting. Covid or not, he was lackluster all season. I fail to see what issue was supposedly caused, by promising Drummond the starting position in the first place. According to Dudley it motivated Gasol to play with more effort. That coming from a legit locker room guy, wasn't some ringing endorsement of Gasol's play IMO. Perhaps you can enlighten me differently.

That's all the Lakers need. If that happens, it's over for everyone.

If anything Trez had a legit beef for Vogel cutting his minutes for Gasol when Drummond came.

One little comment, could even have been kidding and you’ve of course run with it, and there was no reason if healthy for him not to start.

    WUT?

WUT? It was Gasol that got benched and DNPs, not Trez.

That wasn't kidding, he repeated it on multiple occasions and never walked it back. It was never contradicted by anyone either. There wasn't any reason for him to start, other than he started the season at 5.

Career low's in many things across the board. Can he contribute, yes. On a starters level, no. He's a stop gap because we can't afford anything else and that's a "fact". He shoots 40% from 3 on 2.3 attempts per game which means he hits barely one a game, big deal. Father time waits for no one and how long will it take him this year to play himself into shape?

    Lol Gassed-ol

Yea he was a great player once upon a time, he's no longer that and that's a fact. Hopefully he can contribute In a limited role and prove me wrong. His "stats" aren't screaming I'm an NBA starter for any other team in this league there's another fact lol

None of the things you posted above are facts other than Gasol shooting 40% from 3. Career low numbers can be explained by role or minutes. Just because it’s your opinion does not make it a fact. Taking that stand do not help with further discussion.

What wasn't a fact? That he can't jump off the floor anymore or he has regressed from where he used to be? It's not my opinion, his "stats" show regression. Anyone can see he is a shell of what he used to be

Opinions also create discussion. Some of the top sports authorities have shows where they display their outlandish takes which creates tons of discussion. I don't feel my take here on Marc is outlandish, I just don't think he's the player some here think he is

I have 2 main takeaways from the last 24 hours:

    1) it’s interesting that some are baffled by posters defending Gasol, but I find it just as baffling how much energy and time some have spent to hate on a guy that played less than 20MPG and all we’ve been saying is that he was adequate enough on a top defensive team, which virtually all data supports.

    2) anyone using, “I’ve watched basketball for XX years and know what I’m seeing,” I refuse to accept that as a valid argument in any debate here. Most posters on this site can say that and stating that in defense of an opinion comes across as arrogant. Disregarding data doesn’t make it less true.

That Gasol is a stop gap because we can’t afford anything else. You are correct that we don’t have any money but it is your opinion that he is a stop gap. I’m sure if Rob didn’t want him here we could work out something and get another minimum guy to take his place. Also that his stats don’t make a starter for any other team. The role that players are asked to perform on a team will dictate what kind of stats they get. Dirty work kind of player on teams rarely get big stats but that doesn’t mean they aren’t starters in the league and no I’m not saying Gasol does dirty work, I’m just giving you an example of a kind of player who doesn’t get stats but can start on different teams. I’m not a huge Gasol fan but he is asked to make some 3’s and pull other center out of the paint to give Bron and AD space to operate. Make some passes to cutters and be a big body to bang with other big centers so AD doesn’t have to. That’s it IMO. I think he does that job. He isn’t asked to jump high and run like a cheetah. You are correct that opinions can create discussion. That is why this board exist. What doesn’t create discussion is when you say you opinion is fact, which is what you did several times in the post I quoted.

You can spin it however you want. He hasn't been asked to change his game to play here. The reason we brought him here is because of his court savvy and ability to play within a team concept. He just isn't who he used to be anymore and "that's a fact". He's been shooting 3s for the raps, been grabbing boards and starting the break with his outlets, been playing positional defense same thing he was doing there but it's no longer at the same level. These are all facts, I'm not making up some devisive narrative to stir the pot I just don't agree with the opposing faction who believes he still has a lot to offer and that's "my opinion".

Multiple occasions? Honest question for anyone else, do you recall Dudley being quoted saying this on "multiple" occasions? Since we're in L.A. and that's what happens with the Lakers press and any controversy, seems like this would have been a headline in the L.A. Times. Just asking? Doesn't sound like something Dudley would do publicly once he had made his little dig, if indeed that's what it was.

My only request was to not state the comments I mentioned above as facts. I don’t care which side of the argument members fall on.
