New wrinkle... we're the ones looking at other options, not Marc.

Stein and Lakers beat writer Harrison Faigen had a Spotify Green Room chat this afternoon that I missed.

I can't imagine Marc having trade value where we can get something back with his minimum contract. He's worth more to us than what we could possibly get at that salary point in a trade. Can't trade him home to Memphis to retire a Grizz, Rondo makes to much in that exchange.

interesting. if this info is true, my guess is marc is still pissed and informed them privately that he'd like to play elsewhere or not at all.

as i said last year when we immediately started drummond: this is what we were gambling.

and i know he's the punching bag here, but trust me...we didn't want this, no matter the spin in the press.

It's still not adding up for me. He's going to be 37 this season. He knows this is a young man's game and I struggle believing he'd still be upset over the Drumm situation. He'd be walking into the starting spot on the favorites to come out of the West. Can't think of many situations where so little would be asked of him and he'd get to start and have this good of a chance to win.

Assuming Stein's info is solid, it makes sense why this conflicts with what Gasol said during the Olympics. I almost wonder if he's ready to retire and is doing us a favor by not announcing it so we can use him as a trade chip if there's a deal out there to be had and he's doing Rob a solid.

Just makes sense to send him home to Memphis for one last hurrah. Good PR for Memphis who has no history to speak of. Plus they have no backup center.

possibly, though it's hard to imagine the potential deal. the entire roster's been turned over, and he's on a vet min.

    1. i think you should
    2. drummond experiment would have been fine if we didn't insert him as a starter, sight unseen. that was the egregious part. just not the kind of thing championship organizations do, imo.

Rob is ruthless...he's gotten rid of almost every member of last year's team outside of AD, Lebron and Talen. I don't expect Gasol to be on the roster once the season begins. I have to admit that if you take James and Davis out of the equation, this roster is a lot better than what we had last season. When you win a chip, the expectations moving forward is chip or bust. If you fall short, there will be consequences, we see that in play with our off season moves.

Should have just f***ing kept Damian Jones. Dumping him for Drummond cost us chemistry and a young lob threat, rim protector who shoots like 90% from the FT line!. Yeah he sucks on the glass but the Lakers just added Russell Westbrook. Perfect backup roleplayer C for this team who would have been cheap as well

So, what do you guys think? Is Marc washed, or can he still contribute? Just a random question that occurred to me today.

Between the FA thread and here now last 1 or 2 pages both, I listed a number of reasons today that are "facts" he can still contribute and is not washed up. Still some elite skills on offense as well. Bodying up true Big centers in the league, elite passing to hit cutters and shooters in that motion offense that everyone wants (one of top 2 or 3 centers in the league that regard), CAN hit the 3 and not like he couldn't be told to shoot it more if that's what the coaches want. Passable, all tolled, on defense to where the good he's capable of adding on offense outweighs what he has lost on defense, which gets put out with a lot of hyperbole that he's useless. Simply not true.

i have no idea what will happen this year with gasol. i've just argued that a) he wasn't bad last year, and b) he is the best option for a starting c available to us given the information we have now.

will he fall off a cliff or get hurt this year? maybe. will the team's style of play change such that he's not as good a fit? maybe (i doubt it).

but he was anything but "washed" and "useless" last year.

What is this, the old “are you going to believe me (you) or your (our) lyin’ eyes” line?

That’s exactly what Pelinka thought and did last year. Injuries wrecked his plan.

What plan? I'm confused as to what eyes couldn't see Gasol was done already. Vogel's eyes recognized it.
