So Rob and Kurt gave AD Penberthy, gave AD (and Bron to a lesser extent) Drumm, but they draw the line at Dudz as a 15th man? That's just dumb. Roster him until the post trade deadline buyout market and then retire him if nothing else. Tell him up front that at that point in the season he'll be a behind the bench assistant but will move to a front seat next season.
They gotta make those tough calls. I don’t know. I’m gonna see how this unfolds. Winning it all will certainly justify it, even if the sting remains.
Time to move on. We've lost guys like ACG, Fox, Fish, Shaw etc. and we survived. We should have hired him as an assistant, sure, im sad we didn't. But i wouldn't pay him to be on the roster, to cheer and do nothing. If these adults, need a guy like Dudz,to feel comfortable in the locker room, to feel "happy" during the plane trips etc. i hope they are all smart, invest their money wisely and never have to get a real job. I have a feeling, like most of them would curl up in the corner and cry after one day of honest, hard work.
I get why they didn't want to roster him, he isn't going to play any minutes unless we're up by 20 with 2 minutes left to go in the 4th. He is more than valuable in the locker room and just everyday life for these guys so from that standpoint this doesn't make much sense. Wish I was a fly on the wall in that front office
I love the job Rob is doing, and am ok with Kurt's influence, but this was a big whiff. Should have taken a page from Riley's GM master class and his decision to keep Udonis Haslem on the active roster 5 years after his physical ability to contribute. Team culture... especially with an almost entirely new roster this year.
It’s absolutely discrimination unbelievable, blatant, fat shaming discrimination we can’t all be hard bodies SMH
Yeah, I think Riley said Haslem can have a roster spot as long as he wants one. We have plenty of vets, but when you flip the roster twice in two years, it's not a bad idea to have a glue guy who just happens to be one of Bron and AD's best friends taking up a roster spot. Just because someone is a veteran doesn't make them a great voice or leader in the locker room. Dudz had the ear of Bron. Melo is a Hall of Famer, but I don't think he's a commanding presence in the locker room. Dwight is amazing for the bench energy, not a locker presence. When there's roster chaos, stability can be a great asset.
Sounds like Dudley would have played on a non garuranteed deal to boot. SMH https://www.silverscreenandroll.com...-james-lakers-roster-coaching-staff-mavericks
Eff me!! We are going to miss both Caruso and Dudley. Watch Caruso keep improving, better handles and shoots 42% from 3 to spite us …. and some injuries and/or losing streak happens and team chemistry goes south with Dudley no longer here.
These stories coming from Caruso, Trez and Dudley after they leave is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth after a really good offseason...
Rob and Kurt must have a plan that hasn't been revealed just yet. Going against your three best players seems odd for a 13-15 roster spot. I'm also a bit intrigued by Dudz comment about youth over locker room presence. Rondo ain't young at all, so I'm curious as to what he is referring to. https://lakersdaily.com/report-lakers-denied-requests-from-james-davis-westbrook-to-keep-dudley/
If Bron and AD were hell bent on having him, he would still be here. Move on Dudz... we (Lakers) did. Simple as that.
Just some social media comments and likes suggesting a player of his caliber 6th man of the year being benched with not much of a chance in the playoffs didn’t sit well with him. Pretty understandable stuff once we were done.
i was thinking this, too. dudz implies they desperately wanted him. i feel like if that's true, he's here. right. he's not at all wrong, imo. so much goes back to the drummond mistake. and these two quote are related, because we clearly brought in drummond on AD's (and probably lebron's) advice, despite it being pretty clear to many of us that it might be more trouble than it was worth. guessing AD and lebron told dudley they wanted him there, but maybe didn't lobby management very hard.
It sounds a bit funky to me..another report said that Jared was willing to take a non garunteed deal in order to stay. We could have waived him later if it came down to it.We aren't going to play 14 guys as it is , so I guess our next signing is going to shed some light on the subject.
