Damn, wish we would’ve made this move. My guess is maybe the dynamic would be weird for Dudley to coach some of the players he played alongside with, and is close friends with. Going to a new environment with a younger roster may make more sense to start off his coaching career.
“Damn” here too. Kidd must have been impressed and wanted him, just like he wanted Penberthy, but all of Lakers Nation rose up to put a stop to that. Welp he will keep Luca’s head in the right place and happy and probably help keep Kidd from being an a-hole as a coach again that might have made Luka tired of him in a few years.
Find it hard to believe we didn't offer him a position and equally surprising he turned to down to go to Dallas. Cuban offer up a lot of cash? Offer him a fast track position as either a coach or in a front office role?
Am guessing that's a pretty big loss to us from the players point of view in the locker room during those parts of the season where we are struggling. Good thing but still doesn't cover it the same way, that Vogel is a level, even keel "players" kind of coach.
That's great for him. Love his attitude and the energy he brings to a team is infectious. Only thing I'm skeptical about is working with Kid...
Very surprised we didn't hire Dudz ourselves. That's our second big miss this off season along with letting the Eagle fly.
Yeah, we probably weren't able to offer the same position that Kidd offered him. Too bad, but again... I'm happy for him. He's a great guy with high BB IQ who loves to mentor young players. We just have enough people on our staff already. I mean.... it's either that or Rondo's coming, LOL. As Slick mentioned earlier.
Damn, this was a stupid move. Didn't know LeBron stance of it. I don't like it. It seems he wanted it and Vogel/Pelinka didn't want it. That can't be good. Hope I'm not reading too much
something worth considering is that we don't actually know if dudley is a good coach. he's valued as a locker room glue guy. that's valuable, but when you're a coach, you may not play that role as easily/well. i'm guessing we were kind of asking him to come back as a player (but be prepared to be waived and moved to back end coaching spot if we needed the roster spot), and he figured he'd just get a jumpstart on his coaching career. it's a loss for us in terms of chemistry, but i don't think we just let the next great leader of franchises walk out the door. and if we did, i don't think we burned a bridge.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndic...-valuing-youth-over-veteran-presence.amp.html "I've been fortunate enough to play with some real, real true professionals when it comes to that role and guys that are stars in their role, and Dudz is another one of those guys that whatever the team needs—I mean literally, whatever the team needs—he is ready for whatever both on and off the floor," James said back in January. According to Dudley, both James and Anthony Davis were hoping to bring him back for another run—though ultimately, the decision fell on VP and general manager Rob Pelinka and senior advisor Kurt Rambis. "Obviously LeBron and A.D. wanted me back, but we just couldn’t convince them," Dudley said, per Plaschke. "No one owed me anything, Rob and Kurt were honest and upfront, nothing but respect and gratitude to them and [president] Jeanie [Buss]." The decision to let Dudley go was not mutual, and Dudley believes that L.A. erred in prioritizing youth this offseason. "I did want to come back," Dudley said, per Plaschke. "...I talked to Rob and Kurt, I thanked them, but I told them, you’re valuing youth more than a locker room presence guy. I said, ‘I respect you for doing that, but I think you’re wrong,’"
