we don't know that we're losing him for nothing yet. in fact, i'm sort of counting on that not happening. rob should find a way to use his bird rights to both parties' advantage.
I'm pretty sure that Rob's phone is already blowing up , from agents looking to get their clients a seat on this upcoming train. The Lakers will not have any issues finding players that want to came to LA.
How about 12,000 one year and coach plays you where he sees fit. Give us any attitude we’ll glue your a** to the bench and good luck getting 8,000 next year.
Schroder isn't some kind of scrub guys, I think he could have played better sure. The thing is, we didn't get a real training camp, and AD was never really 100 percent. Dennis was the best player on the team IMO, when both AD and Lebron were out. I'm not going to hate on him for saying that he wanted to start, Caruso isn't a starting caliber point guard. My main issues with Dennis were not taking the Covid situation as seriously as he should have or in a professional manner if you will. He had two brushes with it last season, and I believe he actually had covid the second time around. The other thing for me was his irritating habit of sprawling out on the floor after not getting a foul call. That really irked me most about him, it was amateurish IMO. That said, he has talent, he's in his prime, and he was considered one of the better on ball defenders at the point in the league. He is going to get paid, if Dinwidde and Lonzo are perceived to be in the 20 million dollar range, Dennis should be too. He has competition though and that may work in our favor. The teams that have the most cap space, might not have him at the top of their wish list. So doing a sign and trade may be his best option to get the money he is looking for. If all goes sideways and the 100 million dollar deal isn't there for him, and we can't find the right sign and trade to get what we want back, he's not the worst option to bring back as the backup PG. I don't think we could get a better option on the vet min or MLE, and he will still have value as a trade option before the trade deadline.
yeah, i agreed with most of the post except that part. caruso's a more useful basketball player than schroder. especially because schroder doesn't seem to understand his role or value. and that's a problem. i'm glad he turned down that contract, but we need to find a way to extract value from him, one way or another. and yes, he does have value. just not what he thinks.
Caruso could EASILY start at the off guard spot next to Westbrook/AD/Lebron/Some Tall Guy. I don't know how some people continue to not see his value. I think his dunks and the fact that he looks like the guy hanging on at the local YMCA makes people who don't watch the actual games think that is why he has cult status.
yeah, this is one of the best defensive guards in the league. he shot 40% from three. he's not a great floor general/pick and roll offense option. but...who cares?!
I'm not in on the Caruso thing. He's a good bench player on this team, but he can't shoot or pass well enough to start anywhere at pg imo. I seriously doubt that he gets any major offers on the free agent market either. However we are about to find out how much other GMs value Alex shortly. He's is still a star of sorts in his role on this team, off the bench.
right. he should have started over schroder on this team. and whether the league values him or not is really not my concern. i hope they don't, and he keeps killing folks in crunch time for our side.
And resigns for not too expensive a contract but fair (and not DS idea of fair!!). Meanwhile a S and T with Schroder would be great. Ideally for a SG or SF who can shoot or both.
He doesn't kill folks in crunch time though. He makes some plays and he competes, that's all you can ask from a role player. Our own coaching staff didn't consider him a starter, that's cool but they do consider him an asset, that's why he plays. I have no beef with Alex, but we disagree on his place in the pecking order. I think Talen is going to surpass him in that regard this season. I'd still like to keep him around because good glue guys are always valuable.
I don't necessarily view it as a pecking order. I was in favor of starting Alex, but I don't view him as more talented than Schroeder. He's just more of a glue guy. Egos aside, having Schroeder run the 2nd unit and then still get some extra minutes with Lebron would have maximized his abilities. He's not a catch and shoot guy so having the bulk of his minutes with Lebron was redundant. In the end, I hope they don't lose Schroeder for nothing. I'd prefer to do a S&T, but I'd still rather retain him on a tradeable contract than let him walk for nothing. Provide some depth while we wait for a midseason trade.
I don't think Rob traded for him and gave up a first round pick in the process, just to easily let him walk away. Granted it's a gamble when the player is an UFA. I just get the feeling that Dennis may get squeezed some in free agency on the money front. Rob is a former agent, he knows the game, I have know doubt that he is working on a plan to extract some value for Dennis if he moves on. Hopefully it all works out for both sides. Like I said above, if the money isn't there for him, I wouldn't be totally shocked if we inked him on a short term deal, in order to move him at the trade deadline. Im with you on that for sure.. Injuries happen, he could be sought after by then. Bird rights are valuable commodities, it all depends on Jeannie's limit on exactly how far Rob can go.
Not necessarily. Let’s see what happens. I still think DS’s best bet to get the deal and role he wants is in sign and trade.
