The good/bad news from the video above is only 7 teams have over 16 million in cap space next year. Out of NYK, OKC, SAS, Toronto, ORL, MEM, Hornets…the only team with a need for a PG is New York. If they go in a different direction all of Dennis’s leverage is gone. We could still do a sign and trade with Toronto. Otherwise Dennis will be out of suitors and no way I offer him 4/84.

There’s historically always been the spinning rims business for NBA players in situations like these.

But Rob’s had his “seasoning” by now and likely will be able to make some quantity of lemonade out of the lemons DS brought to us.

(haven’t yet been able to play that video that I so eagerly want to be able to do :D )

PS. Not to pile on Dennis or anything ;) but would loved to have been a fly on the wall, after having bought that incredible house with all its honestly cool features and having the 2 or 3? young kids to take care of …. when he told the wife he turned down that contract offer. Whoooo boy!!!

The Buss family own 66% while the other 34% are owned by other owners namely, Philip Anschutz, who also handles a company that owns the Staples Center. Lakers signed a $4 billion, 20 year TV deal with TimeWarner in 2011. Lakers are also working on a new sponsor for their jersey logo patches which they estimate to generate around $20-25 million per year. There is also the national TV networks that pay the NBA billions of dollars in which the Lakers receive a cut from it since they are constantly on national TV. Then you have to consider that since Bron joined, Lakers revenue skyrocketed to $430 million per year. The TV contract with TimeWarner alone is $200 million per year which already more than covers the salary cap.

Thank God. That Wish trash needs to go. This would be the time to talk to Vanessa and get the MAMBA logo there. Start promoting the new line and blowing it up.

I've mentioned this before but Toronto is a move I could see both teams make.
An interesting move would be signing and trading both THT and DS and one of the bigs to Toronto for Siakam and Anunby
Toronto gets to start on a rebuild by dumping Siakams huge contract while getting more tradeable assets and possible future star in THT

LAL gets a guy who is not a #1 but has been shown to be great #2b to #3 guy and more shooting. A finishing lineup of AD/Siakam/Lebron would be a nightmare to guard and score against

Why would Toronto trade Siakam? Did something happen over there with him and management?

Yeah, I know all that and surmise that they have enough but I was just saying "if" they won't pay the luxury tax it would indicate that they have other expenses and cannot afford the payout. I hope they do extend their cap and can afford it, certainly seems like they can. You never know what other deals their money has gotten itself into. LOL, rich people do all kinds of weird sh*t with their money.

Run away from Siakam. He doesn't shoot well and would have a very tough time adjusting to AD and LeBron. Also not what we need for post-Lebron era. He had a very bad year, is not star material as thought initially. I don't see how he will fit in a contender team in his career.

If Lowry forces it, maybe we can entertain a T&S with Schroder. I'm not sure what's their strategy moving on, their season was a mess

tor tried to extract THT, but they thought we were desperate and saw that we won't do that. i wonder if the prospect of losing lowry for nothing might motivate them a bit more this time around. i'm not offering any more than schroder and the #22, though.

siakam is an interesting name because his value has to be really low right now. after briefly surprising me, he's kinda who i thought he was all along (everyone was telling me he was better than ingram and i was like...no...then...maybe?...but...now...no).

he's an interesting buy-low candidate, but probably not for us, as the ways he regressed were shooting and defense.

We couldn't include THT in that deal.

It was smart not to make it.

The team I would watch ***if*** reports are true in their interest with respect to Schroder is Miami.

If Pat wants him, he will attempt to get him, he isn't afraid to pay him $20 million plus if he thinks it will make the team a contender.

They would have to work with us on an S&T in order to acquire Schroder.

They made a 4 team deal happen with Philly just to make the Butler deal work.

Aa far as what Schroder would want? What more could he ask for? It's a good market, competitive team, great living environment for a guy his age...it just makes too much sense to me.

    But we will see.

Agree with your Siakam assessment. He is a slightly better version of Kuzma to me.

i'll take dragic and a pick. they'd have to pick up their team option on him first, though.

play him 20mpg off the bench and run the offense through him when lebron sits. victories.

it's a risk with his age, but we can't do better on the FA market with the cash we'll have. i'd prefer lowry, but this could work, too.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

Still serviceable. If we did end up getting a pick, it's gives us more flexbility.

Although, with where we are in the salary cap, it might be wise to start keeping some of these players that are cost controlled for the foreseeable future.

yeah, i'd like to try and develop a couple guys at the end of the bench like we have been with THT.

but as THT and AC have shown us, it doesn't need to be a first round pick to pay off.

for example, i really think mckinnie could take on a bigger role if we had to move kuz to shore up another area. small sample sizes, but he produced pretty well in his spot duties. there are other guys like him out there (guys who took a while to catch on and just need the right situation).

anyway, dragic would be a nice one-year stopgap who could, in theory, provide what we need from that spot. we can play caruso, THT, kcp, and maybe wes the rest of the guard minutes.

This is where I think folks are missing with Siakam: he's clearly regressed as he's been forced into the #1 spot on a roster where defenses are keyed on stopping him. Main problem is he does not have a good set of counter moves like Lebron spin dribble or turn around jumper so if his first action is stopped, he gets stuck in the mud.

However, his advanced metrics are solid the year after Leonard left and awesome the year before (contract year!). As a #3 guy with his length and athleticism and taking open jumpers rather than trying to create his own, I don't see a reason why he wouldn't go back to that. In addition, in the games for example against the Lakers the defensive tools are all there and if you're trying to create on offense you also don't have as much energy on defense

These are the kind of risks the Lakers have to consider IMO as they don't have the assets for proven #1 types like Beal. Siakam's dimensions also fit just so well with Lebron and AD. You get a 3rd guy who can rotate on basically every switch on PnR defense and unlike Kuzma, Siakam has been definitely able to consistently hit big shots playing off a star player. The Lakers have consistently had trouble with big wings and Siakam as a #3 basically solves that and as noted he's not a bad shot creator if he's able to go against the opponents weaker defenders.

The other piece is Anonoby: he's due for a payday, can shoot, and play defense. If you can pair him with KCP that would really help the backcourt in terms of shoring up shooting without sacrificing defense. Don't see why Toronto wouldn't just sign him unless we can offer something like dumping Siakams contract or young asset/draft pick

yeah, i'd take siakam, for sure. probably give up schroder/kuz/#22 for him and hope for a vet pg to sign with us on the cheap.

question is whether the package i listed is enough. at some point, it's not buying low anymore.

Say we trade for Siakam, what position does he start at?
Bron is our 3 and AD is our 4. He’s not beating either of those two out. He’s nowhere near big enough to play the 5. And we all know AD is physically incapable of being a starting 5 all season. Do we expect Siakam to come off the bench?

Bench: I mean the Lakers perfected this with Odom - you know who is going to play the majority of minutes and finish games

If you can get Anunby: you can start him with KCP off the bench and play both in 4th quarters as well

Then you play LeBron, AD, Siakam, big and plus 1 as your main lineup (regardless of who starts). Where's the shooting?
I really don't see the fit with Siakam. And he's a starter in any other team, no way he would come of the bench and remain happy. He plays for a max contract
