This guy gets hated on relentlessly for no reason. He had to be the most productive player we had that only played 20 minutes a game.
Dwight and Javale blocked the paint and only occasionally scored, both were an adventure if they caught the ball, if it wasn't a lob or dunk. Especially Javale, he was was a shaqting the fool episode waiting to happen . This dude scored at much higher clip than Howard or McGee in the minutes he played. Bad hands and all
He scored at a higher rate but was much more inefficient because he had more touches. I don't want my center pounding the ball when I have two superstars in AD and Bron. Dwight and Javale blocked the paint but they were athletic enough to get into position and convert easy buckets. We didn't need Dwight/Javale to score. Drummond might be a better offensive talent than Dwight/Javale but he definitely doesn't fit this team better than Dwight/Javale. He can't run the floor, has a low vertical, and doesn't finish strong under the rim.
Drummond just isn't a very good fit. It just isn't just us saying, it; I believe the numbers can back that up. However, I didn't realize he was Pelinka's former client until yesterday. Guess we'll see.
He scored and rebounded at a higher clip period. It's not important that AD and Lebron score all the points. That is actually a problem. This is exactly why AD wanted Drummond because he doesn't HAVE, to do all the scoring and rebounding. I don't understand why that's so hard to grasp. Cant run the floor? says who? Did you notice how slow Gasol is?
Who is saying that? The guys on the team, the coaching staff? Who? Yes the fact that Pelinka was his former agent was thought to be a major plus in the Lakers being able to sign him. This was bandied about all over the place before he got released.
Guys who break down footage and watch basketball for a living. Does he need a full training camp to integrate himself into the group? I guess I'll hope so if he comes back.
So the players on the team and the coaching staff we employ whose jobs entail them doing those things, somehow don't know what they are talking about?
That doesn't make sense. We employed people whose jobs entail them those things, have given a multi year contract to Deng and Mozgov, for example. Professionals make mistakes, a lot of them. Otherwise, there would be no point of discussing sports. Bad argument, mate
I think Dummond was promised a position to start; I believe that was a selling point to getting him to come here. It really didn't matter what Frank thought; even if he knew Marc was a better fit or a superior player. FYI, I wanted Drummond. I was excited when he came. I just didn't know any better until we started seeing the results on the floor. Just my opinion. We will see.
Me too. I thought it was a steal and even suggested that it wasn't fair and the league should do something about it. Man, I was so wrong
This coaching staff didn't have anything to do with that. Again you are telling me that they somehow are incapable of understanding what they see on film?
All I'm saying is two things....1. Gasol wasn't working out before Drummond got released, it had nothing to do with Drummond. 2. Since he got here, I fail to see what Gasol supposedly does better. I would add a 3rd thing here by saying that both of these dudes only play 20 miutes or so regardless, so there are much more impactful things going on, with the poor play from Schroder, KCP, Kuzma than anything related to either of these guys. That said of the two Drummond has played better IMO.
Gasol has been debated on the forum. There are some that think that Gasol was the superior player: the IQ, passing chops, and shooting & spacing he provided was superior to what Drummond added; that was the argument I heard from Gasol supporters. He wasn't putting up the eye pooping stats, bit there was a belief from some that he was and is the better player both from a schematic and tactical standpoint.. Did I agree at the time? No, I wanted Drummond. However, Drummond had his own issues: lack of finishing around the rim, clogging the paint, his post-ups are awful. To be honest? I don't think Drummond or Gasol are the answers. However, given our lack of options if Drummond wants to come back at a reduced salary, we might have to do it.
Yes, the point I was proving is that people make mistakes. And this can be one of them. So that's not an argument It's subjective. I think they know what is not working, otherwise he would have played even more time. I think there's some pressure, probably from AD, to play alongside Drummond. I also saw the potential and on paper is a scary duo, but having watch the games, I never felt Drummond was making our team better, it was mostly the opposite.
I watch the games, stats and highlights don't tell the whole picture. From watching the games I say this...Gasol's major issues are...he doesn't shoot enough to impact the game. Teams don't bring their centers out to guard him, that leaves AD still dealing with opposing bigs. Since he is on the perimeter, he doesn't help on the offensive boards either, that isn't clearing up room for AD, it only makes AD have to work harder IMO. Of course AD numbers may go up some scoring and rebounding but thats because Gasol doesn't do any of that. Drummond does all his work in the paint, whatever shots he takes are around the basket. He draws opposing centers, you can't guard him with forwards the way you can with Gasol. He rebounds the ball at a high clip, more importantly he occupies the opposing bigs, leaving AD matched up with forwards. This reduces the amount of banging AD has to do, this is why Davis wanted Drummond. From a team perspective points are points and rebs are rebs...they don't all have to come from AD. G Defensively they suffer from the same issue most big men have, guards take advantage of them in pick and roll. The same way they did with Howard and McGee. Gasol is the slowest of the 4 and plays the guard action the worst. However he has size and provides resistance against the power postups but there aren't many centers that play that way today. We need to pay attention to what the franchise player says....he doesn't want to play the 5, especially if he is going up against a true 5. In spots fine, not for the bulk of the game.
I don't have a problem with that, I just think that all of Gasol's plusses never really materialized either. On the flip side Gasol got to play with AD and Lebron before they were injured. Drummond only got the lessor versions of both and not much time on the court with them to boot. The last thing that irks me with Gasol is something Dudley alluded to, he definitely picked up his effort level once Drummond got signed. That is a reason he was benched in the first place. Anyway we shall see how it plays out.
