Bench him, he just doesn't fit with Davis. Let him play with Lebron when Davis sits: need spacing with AD
How many point blank open dunk/layups can he miss? Didn't look too happy being taken out for Marc but I would try to get him minutes without AD. Just see him like Javale last year: becomes unplayable in the playoffs
Who was it that was imagining here that Drummond and AD could be one of if not the best all time center / forward duos? That observation didn’t age well.
As I said in the Gasol thread, I actually like what Drum and Marc bring together when you tell them to go out and play aggressive. Start Drummond, tell him that he needs to DOMINATE offensive glass like he did last night. Kick the ball out or take a shot if you've earned it with your physical play. We're not going to feed you too much, but we do encourage you to play physical and don't worry too much about fouling. Then split the minutes with Marc and good things will happen. I might be the only one here, but I like when I see aggressive and tough Drummond early with a box score that reads: 6/10/2, with 7 (!) offensive rebounds in only 19 minutes and a W. Know what I mean? If he's not demanding post touches and works hard, I like what he's doing.
But how can you be that big, standing right under the hoop with no one guarding you and completely clank a layup? I literally don't get it.
He has bad hands. He's not as bad as Kwame, but he's certainly not Pau Gasol either. He has bad touch around the rim. He thinks it's his game, but it's not. His game is being physical and gobbling up offensive rebounds. If he just focused on that and being mobile while switching on D (getting 2 steals per game), his numbers would go down - but he'd be a much superior player. Drummond simply needs to realize that less is more.
16/18/3/2... yeah that's a pretty damn good game. Went beast mode in the 3rd Q. Nice to see him stay out of foul trouble in a big, physical game... even if the Knicks are undersized.
Just don't give him the ball (ala Dwight). Let him rebound, defend and finish lobs. He keeps losing the ball when he has to catch it and do something with it
What I like about Drummond's performance tonight is that he got involved in the game by rebounding and not aggressively defending. Those lead to 2nd chance points and often assists for him, and this way he keeps his head in the game. The Nets game was a nice debut of sorts, but to me this win against the Knicks was his best game as a Laker.
I want to see Bron get him the ball though. He is on the receiving end of some really difficult entry passes or dump offs. I think he'll look less Kwame like then. We have some very limited point guards on this roster. Is Kidd too above holding a mini camp for these guys? DS, AC, THT, KCP are not good PGs in any stretch. It's still early for THT. Those are good guards, but in no fashion are they passing point guards. I'd argue the best looks that Drumm has gotten have been from AD. I do want to see more face ups and less back to the back action from him. And let's leave the flip shot to Trezz. He's elite at that shot and for Drumm... it's just not for him. Good to hear. I think he can keep the effort around there, regardless of whether the numbers will pop like that or not.
All I'm saying is.. Gasol has played in 50 games as a Laker He avg 5 pts 4 rebs and 2 assists in 20 mins. He has no double doubles or even a double digit rebounds game. Drummond has played in 17 games as a Laker He avg 11 pts 9 rebs and 1.5 assists in 24 min. Drummond has 7 double doubles, and 11 double digit rebound games. Yet somehow HE sucks, and Gasol get's a pass? That's just ridiculous man.
Again, Drum is doing just fine. Clean up that shot selection, go up strong and finish with two hands... if you can't, kick it outside. Dominate the offensive glass. Get a couple steals & blocks. Here we have a historically great rebounder who generates more second opportunities than anyone else in the league; look at the guys who were better: Rodman, Wilt... Moses? That's HoF company right there. Just stop the back to the basket + fancy footwork kind of game because that isn't you man. Everything else is good. Drum just needs a slight change of attitude to be a really good center. It's literally just that. Recognize your strengths, play big, play strong. There's no one who can physically intimidate you!
^^^ A lot like Dwight in that regard thinking he was more of an accomplished low post scorer with moves than he really ever learned and perfected and polished. But compared to Dre he really is, funny enough.
Thought he did a much better job of making he right read vs forcing it back up after securing the offensive board. Good sign of learning his role here.
