He's a poor offensive fit , he can take his " winning titles isn't my priortity" attitude somewhere else .
i was worried about this early in the season, and it's here. i was hoping he'd be moved in this case, but i guess we just have to roll with it now. still think he's going to look pretty dumb in a few months.
The Lakers can't afford him but other teams can next summer. I believe 6 teams out there with nearly $28 mil in capspace. He's not worth more than $20 mil but other teams who need a young PG might pony up.
1. he's not that young 2. not all those teams need pgs 3. he hasn't really proven himself as a starting pg maybe i'm wrong, but i think he regrets not taking the 80 million.
Question.. Can the Lakers offer him more if he opts out & they resign him..? 4yrs/$84Mil seems like a very fair offer. Sorta surprised.
He can't opt out because he's not on a player option deal. He will be an unrestricted free agent but the Lakers have his bird rights so theoretically, they can go above the salary cap and offer him the 30% max contract for a year 7-9 player which is $32 million. But it's unlikely the Lakers will offer him anywhere close to that but I think that is why Dennis is holding out. He knows the offer will still be on the table for him but he's also playing it risky because the Lakers might as well just go for DeMar or Jrue Holiday, CP3 (assuming they opt out). Personally, it would make a lot of sense for Dennis to hold out but I just hate when he talks about fair when he's not worth more than $20 million, IMO.
Man Jrue Holiday can really put opposing PGs in their place. If your not a true star the dude takes good but not great players like Jordan Clarkson and Schroeder to school. He's great marker for PG quality and where to rank them
That being said I think folks are being too harsh with Schroeder. It want long ago where we still had Lebron and without DS we looked really bad and then when DS came back before the Lebron injury the Lakers looks really good. It's always tough fitting in with a title team after you played as a star on a and team. Doesn't mean he's worth the money that he wants bit I think his performance has reasons behind it and in terms of fit he did fit in when he were even somewhat healthy
He values being woo’d this Summer to stroke his ego over having the best franchise in professional sports step up and want to lock him in. With enough money to support several generations of Schroeders I’d say the decision has been made, and Rob has already begun preparations for plan B, C, and D. He will definitely look back and regret this.
Would like to have heard the conversation with the wife with 3 tiny kids and the situation you just described and fabulous new house for the family close to work when he told her he turned it down. Still think it could have been maybe wanting a no trade clause but who knows. If just the wining and dining and wooing then yeah, dumb. Dude they offered you a lot of money for not being a legit star PG and mediocre passer and shooter.
This guy currently ranks 38th in PER among 68 NBA point guards. http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg He's basically a good scorer off the bench but not really starter material as this season has revealed.
He’s been a mini distraction since day one when he demanded to be a starter. His act is growing old with me.
My thoughts precisely. He hasn't been bad on the court, but certainly also not good enough to warrant this kind of a headache. The worst part is, if we can't sign him in the offseason or convince him to participate in a sign-and-trade, we may have serious issues with filling that gap considering the cap restrictions. With all of that, I want us to keep him still, but he's very, very far from my favorite Laker ATM.
yes. did you see the eagle volleyball his s*** off the glass? that was in isolation d on a drive after holiday had eviscerated us for the first few minutes. eagle = #1. he can be a good support player. he and his agent don't seem to understand this and are just hoping someone else also doesn't understand it, i guess. that's been the book, and nothing has shown it to be wrong. he could start. if you have lebron and AD. otherwise, he's a bench player. sixth man of the year candidate bench player, but a bench player. 4/84 was a lot for that. a little more than i was comfortable with, tbh. yeah, s&t is the only way, and very little chance we pick up a guard with that talent level for what we have in cash. probably why his agent thinks they have us over a barrel. i disagree, though. to up our offer, you need a competing offer, and you can't take less than 4/84 elsewhere without losing some face. who's offering that? anyway, he's not making his case at all.
He's in the same boat as Harrell, a very productive bench player and a very good role player...hes not the guy to carry your teams offense to win games. If the Lakers want to maximize him and if he needs to up his value, he should come off the bench when Lebron returns. DS vs other teams backups can be super deadly
Who do you suggest should start instead and help LeBron with the playmaking and constant handling of the ball with good enough handles, moves and shooting (not that he’s great there) if not Schroder? AC and THT have kind of disappointed in those areas of late.
why would he want a no trade clause when its not even available? you have to be on the team for a certain amt of yrs to even qualify
Definitely trust Eagle. Sure you lose a little bit of playmaking and ball handling but the guy plays very well next to Lebron.
Looking at the market this off-season it seems likely he and his agents are eyeballing the Knicks. 1. LOTS of money and cap space 2. Basically no PGs on the books next year 3. Great Market and living conditions even if the team stinks. 4. Historically dumb enough to overpay someone like Schroder He and Randle could return that team to levels of mediocrity not seen in Manhattan in decades. I hope the FO there isn't that stupid. It annoys me that just because we have his bird rights greedy agents think we should plunge our team nearer to non-profitability for a 3rd or 4th tier player. Rob knows this because he would have tried to pull the same thing.
I'd prefer to throw 25M to Lowry for a year or two at this point, than give Schroder 100M or anything close, and I'm not even a fan of Lowry.
