sounds like marc goes to the bench and becomes a spot duty player. kieff probably doesn't see the floor unless folks are injured. there's 96 pf/c minutes, and we'd have drummond/AD/harrell/gasol/kieff/kuz/lebron as guys who can play one of those spots. now, we've been using lebron and kuz mostly at sf for defensive purposes, which is good as it keeps us large without killing our defense. still, i think come playoff time you'll see both play some pf. i figure trez keeps his 25mpg, playing at least 15 of those as backup c, if not all of them. drummond will play his 25-30mpg, all at c. which leaves a few c minutes for AD or gasol, depending on matchups, and 30mpg for AD at pf (imagine a few at center to close halves) and the remainder split among harrell/lebron/kuz, again, depending on matchup. in the interim, i wonder if we'll have to play some second unit minutes with gasol/harrell big combos. we haven't played much that way, but i'm not sure we can't, tbh. gasol mostly stays out of the paint on offense.
Lots of fans are going to get dissapointed when they finally watched Drummond play . He's a insurance in case Marc misses time , nothing more .
i agree that folks are getting a little blinded by the stats, and i have concerns about drummond. but i don't think he's coming here to sit behind marc (even if maybe he should be). also, as i mentioned above, i don't think you can play harrell/drummond, but you can play harrell/gasol for a few minutes here and there. hence, better to start the game with drummond.
I would never invest a lot of money in Drummond and/or try to build around him. BUT, the talent is clearly there, he's also been humbled, I assume we get a motivated and hungry version, eager to prove his woth. I also expect Bron to impact him in a good way based on other examples from our recent past. All in all, I expect him to be pretty valuable in this run
I’m pretty sure most here know that Drummond isn’t a star player. That said he would instantly be the most talented center we have and someone capable of 20-20 games, and with many games of us getting killed on the boards I welcome that. Also take into account that he hasn’t exactly played on great teams. Put him with a coach like Vogel who has gotten great defense out of players not considered defenders before and stick him next to LeBron and AD and he will clean up some games.
yeah, no one's expecting drummond to come in and start playing like KAT or embiid he's a damn good rim protector, disrupts shots, and probably the best rebounder in the league. that's exactly what this team needs
I actually think being a backup center lowers expectations and let’s him just help run offense with the 2nd unit, protect the rim, he could still be valuable for sure.
he plays with the starters of course the def #s will be better but as season progress i could see teams were targeting him on switches n so many easy paint points, feels so much worse than last yr, we were ranked 6th last yr in paint pt defense, 21st this yr https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/opponent-points-in-paint-per-game?date=2021-03-28
He's been a force. Tonight, on top of the buckets, he had a key steal/block/interception and then a traditional block down the stretch.
