This is great! He has his limitations and some of his stats may be inflated, but he’s a 27 year old 2-time all star who plays a position of need. Watch the NBA haters come out and trash Drummond now, but there is no way to spin this as anything other than a huge win for the Lakers.
Welcome to the Lakers! Most people were unsure about our center position. Gasol showed that he was a high IQ player, tremendous passer and good defender, but has no speed and stamina. He's a 10 mpg bench player, best used for specific matchups and to stretch the floor when needed. So, guys wanted a true big who can bang, score, rebound, all that good stuff. Alright, so... Drummond. Very big. Strong. Mobile. THE best rebounder of this generation. Can play a lot of games. 17/14 player, TONS of offensive rebounds. Gives you at least 1-2 steals & blocks per game. Yeah. I think this is pretty good. He plays the big 5, Trez plays the small 5. AD will play some in the playoffs, depending on matchups. Gasol plays 10 minutes off the bench. Kieff never sees the 5 anymore. Oh, he's not even in his prime yet. He's 27.
Huge HUGE pickup for the purple and gold! This was the one position from the start of the season I was very skeptical about. I had no expectations we could realistically get a 27 year old 2 time all star in the buyout market, but once again Rob delivers.
Lakers fans sometimes act like their Memphis Grizzlies fans. 17 titles, greatest franchise in American sports and still paranoid of the simple things.
^ See how he does... if he fits well with Bron and AD, re-sign. We'll have to see what happens with Dennis & Trez. Also need to figure out if KCP still belongs. Wes won't be there.
Let him walk. We aren’t going to be the one to pay him his next big contract....unless he wants vet min
I think this is going to have to be a rental only. We don’t have any bird rights, so the most we could re-sign him to would be using our taxpayer MLE at around $6 million. And if he takes that offer ... that means he probably underperformed. Our best case scenario is that he plays well enough for us to the point where we can’t afford to re-sign him.
