his defense is the only issue once he builds more chemistry with the guys he'll start producing more offensively. but he's been the spark off the bench as advertised
I just think the problem is we're all expecting Montrezl to be like Dwight when he's 10x more offensive oriented and as of now, the Lakers don't really need Montrezl's offense so he doesn't seem as useful as Dwight. He's not getting the same opportunities to score like he did for the Clippers because he needs the ball and Lakers have too many players who need the ball. In the playoffs, Dwight+Javale only played in certain matchups so it's not like the regular season should define how the Lakers will ultimately end up being in the playoffs. Still only 6 games in and I see lots of improvements coming for the Lakers. The defense won't be as good but come playoffs time, no team will beat the Lakers 4/7 times.
He brings exceptional energy. When we seem deflated early, you put him in and good things happen. It's contagious. Very good game, once again!
Love the energy when the ball goes up. His D isn't there, but his effort is and that goes a long way. Still think time with these guys and the staff, he can get better defensively. I think if we get him from being targeted in matchups, that's enough and a win for development. I'm always down for a good Clipper diss. But regarding what he said about us (and why I lumped it with the tweet above it), that's what's great about this team and the culture that Vogel, Bron, and AD have established. Even while guys haven't figured out their role or gotten on the same page entirely, they're still bringing it at an elite level and putting up tremendous stats while figuring it out. So when it does click and we're not just winning of talent, this team is going to steamroll.
His defense is as bad as advertised. I see why he had to be sat vs Jokic now, there’s no way you could put him on that guy, Jokic is way too smart and Trez lacks defensive court awareness as bad as I’ve ever seen. As soon as Marc was getting ready to go out and Trez came in the Grizz went nuts, Trez leaves us scrambling. Vogel is going to have to do his best work ever to sort this out.
Vogel is so good at communicating with players .. Giving Montrez props all regular season long then it will be easier for him to accept the McGee treatment coming playoffs time
he's cost us zero games and helped us preserve stars in at least one if not two. for a two-year MLE commitment. come playoff time, he gets picked on, he sits. AD is center. we win. loved his comments on the team's style of play, too. so glad we didn't buy into the threes and frees junk. horrible to watch. play to your team's strengths.
Vogel is no offensive genius but he lets players play to their strengths , was already the case last season . No frustration and I think it's easier for Vogel to make them buy into his defensive principles . It's just simple but great coaching
the best coaches (read: not dantoni) and organizations in general (read: not morey) are flexible in their approach.
I don't know if I'd say good (21st last year) , but he's putting up the lowest BPG numbers since his rookie year. Last year: 10 games with 3 blocks, 8 games with 2, 26 games with 1 2 years ago: 1 w/ 5, 3 w/ 4, 10 w/ 3, 18 w/ 2, and 27 games with a block So far he's had 1 in game 1 and 1 in game 3. Positioning with AD? he tries for some that he'd volleyball out of bounds if he had another 2 inches. His best defensive asset is his ability to draw charges, which has truly yet to be unlocked here. He's gotten a few so far but he was tied for league’s best last year with 30 (tied with Lowry, but played 150 fewer minutes) . When looking all this up, stumbled on this defensive stat... Like I've been saying, he's capable and there's some good clay for Vogel to work with. I think we're just in pre season mode and we have to figure everything out with our new core still.
Stats don't tell the story but he's unreliable defensively. I was watching the Bulls broadcast and they can immediately recognize putting Harrell in a P & R will result in easy points. He's a very productive bench player but wouldn't count on him late in games
Big time game by Trez..17/14 with the best D I've seen him play as a Laker in the 4th. Might not say much, but it's progress. Not sure why he plays a little better at home. If there were fans, I get it. His game thrives off that 2 way energy. Maybe he likes sleeping in his own bed, I don't know.
He is just so bad on defense. -allows Thaddeus Young not only to get deep position multiple times, he doesn't then seem to get the he'll go left since he's lefty -gets lost all the time. Hes gets boards and putbacks but he's give up as many point as he produces or more
And to top it off he talks all kind of sh** against a Bulls 2nd stringer. Still has annoying Clipper tendencies.
