After a couple of pre-season games, some people want to give Schröder walking papers. Well KCP and Rondo know that feeling. Beal would be a hell of an addition no doubt. On the other hand, KCP + Kuz + THT+ who else? is a lot of depth to give up especially young depth and we don't know how great THT will turn out and as for Kuz, give him a bad team and 20 attempts pg and see what his stats are then. Most of the talented youth in the NBA are on bad teams. The attraction of pairing AD with a star guard for the future has its appeal no doubt. It would also be nice to see one or 2 of these high draft picks we are so good at finding pan out and become our own "Ginobli" and be a 3rd and/or a 3rd and 4th (THT + Kuz) to AD + another superstar. Anyway, the better Kuz and THT become better for us whether we keep or trade them. No rush atm though.
Slighty overpaid , his current value based on his impact on the floor is around 8-10 millions a season . I'm glad we escaped the huge leap in contract's last season trap though . Kuz won't Luke Walton'd us
No he won't Luke Walton us, Kuz is tenfold the player Luke was. I like this deal since I like Kuz, more than KCP, in fact, he just needs to concentrate on his game and stop posting so much on social media which distracts from his game
KCP impact on the floor has been bigger since I've read his name a couple of times since Kuz extension . Individual talent and the ability to perform in the role given on this team are different things . The latter is what matters
Really like this and I think it means this is his last year here. This makes him more tradeable of an asset next summer. Before he made so little, you had very few options on the trade market. Now a bottom feeder might be interested, giving him a look as a #2 option. Before they would've been afraid he'd bolt in FA and now can have him locked in at a cheaper rate then they could've gotten him for in the free agency market.
no telling. i wouldn't have been surprised if he got more than that next summer nor if he got frozen out in FA and ended up taking a one-year MLE like trez did with us (though he wasn't frozen out). point for me is that i'd rather overpay him by 3 million per and control his rights than have to deal with the prospect of him walking for nothing when we're already capped out. as ox said, between him, kcp and whomever sticks around from schroder/harrell, we have salary on useful players that could net us a high impact player should we need one down the road. i don't see it as an albtross contract, even if he, say, falls out of the rotation. in fact, his value may be up now for small market teams that would consider trading for him.
This is such a no brainer deal - I'm shocked that Kuzma took it. Also - extremely tradeable contract. And Kuz can opt out at age 28 when he's in his prime. I love it. And everyone loves Kuz here. Oddly enough, I think that Kuz is actually going to play a lot better now that his contract is sorted out. Less anxiety for him which should put more focus on helping us win rather than focusing on his individual accolades to get a bigger deal next summer.
There is none but it is what he deserved with KCP making 13 a year . As others said , it's fine because it's a tradeable contract .
I loved his improvements on D last season, and hope he can keep improving his shooting and focus. And like Rock said, this is a holden opportunity for him to learn 3 n D from a veteran 3 n D threat in Matthews.
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/kyle-kuzma-shot-chart-2020 Kuzma's shot chart last year. Even with all of his shooting problems, he's $$ in corner 3s. He can make a living just by hitting those short corner shots. The top of the key numbers are pretty horrible Here's his career shot chart in comparison, corner 3s are money. Wing area shots need significant improvement https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/kyle-kuzma-shot-chart-career
Anyone can check comps @ spotrac.com and teams know what the market for players is. I think the better question is how do you evaluate Kuz at this point? He's on a team that essentially flipped his role last year and he needed to deal with that and it undoubtedly affected him as far as precious offensive stats go. That's why some are surprised he signed on for another 2+1. I think the kid has accepted his role on the team after winning a championship and I believe his confidence is going up that he can be a bigger factor overall in our success. Small sample but the nearly 42% on 6 attempts in 6 preseason games is promising as that is an area Kuzma really needs to excel in. He does that, or let's say gets the 3s up to a 36%+ clip again and continues to grow defensively, kicks that up a notch and we have a bargain. Besides, Rob doesn't give bad contracts, he gets rid of them (see Mozgov, Deng & Green) no offense to Green he was ok, but not 15 million ok. Now let's see if Rob's hunch was right.
I think Kuzma is going to play better simply because he got paid and he's locked in for the next 3 years guaranteed (player option in that last year of the deal). Committing to a player can have a positive psychological effect on them - and for someone like Kuz, I feel it's a huge confidence booster for him. Sure, he didn't get paid as much as he wanted - but it's probably good that he didn't because had he gotten paid $20m+, the expectations from Lakers and Lakers fans would be significantly higher, which would ultimately set Kuzma up for failure. Now? He can just focus on helping our team win, and do all the little things we need from him. $13M per year is a very good number for both sides...I'm ecstatic we got him at this rate and I believe he's going to play up to this contract.
Kuzma will play the way he has always played. He is volume shooter. He will never be an efficient player game in and game out. He will have 2 out of 4 good games a week. That should be enough with the talent on this team so, its all good.
I would be willing to bet that Lonzo turned down an extension as a calculated decision, and that he ends up getting a much larger deal next summer than Kuzma got with his extension. I’d also argue that Kuzma would have been able to command a bigger contract in the off-season as well. As a late first rounder, he hasn’t made that much overall in his career yet so I understand why he’d want to secure the bag right now, but not sure if it ends up being the best decision for him especially if he ends up having a good year. For our sake, glad he took it of course.
So I haven't been able to follow how much money teams are spending lately, but with COVID-19 hurting businesses and sinking a lot of MLB money and player salaries, how much has it affected the NBA? It seems like owners are still spending a lot; just not sure of the overall impact.
Yeah it’s a bit confusing and the situation is still in flux. My impression is that even with the league’s revenue dropping, it’s still going to be just a drop in the bucket for most of the extremely wealthy owners. So it’s almost like they’re in an arms race to spend whatever they can right now, because it’s possible that the salary cap overall goes down in a few years after the next round of CBA negotiations due to the drop in league revenue.
