Out of all current PG's, Dennis Schroder has the largest hand size... bigger than Rondo's. 10.5 inches for a player his size is insane.

The Eagle’s above average in athleticism I think I’ve seen mentioned so likely reasonably fast as well.

I thought maybe it was his German background

I haven’t heard him speak, but saying w for an r sounds like a speech impediment. I highly doubt it’s a German language thing (my first language).

It sounds like his accent to me. I don’t think I’d ever heard him speak before he became a Laker, it’s an interesting accent.

Doesn't even sound like a typical German accent to me... just an unusual accent that's hard to identify. In any case, it's easy to understand him. IMO, of course, since English isn't my native language either.

I love when he calls Lebron “Lee-Bron”

Maybe it’s a certain dialect. To me it sounded almost like a mix of German and French.

Unsure whether his accent is Milli or Vanilli? Me either.

    Loved what Schroder brings.

He was able to penetrate and draw fouls and break down the D.

Exactly what we needed last year when we had stagnation offense and passing round the perimeter without breaking the defense.

Shroder looked rough at times but it was a pre-season game which is nice to win but does not count, and AD, Lebron, KCP, Morris and Gasol will make him look better.

Not a point guard savant, but we got the player I relished watching on the Thunder last year. He is going to rock some Purple and Gold highlights to replace that skunk peroxide he had in his hair. He may have missed an opportunity to dye his hair purple with a gold streak but if Kuz has taught us anything, hair dye and Lakers don't mix.

His first game he looked a lot like Rondo to me. Better shooter overall, obviously faster, but the same bad turnovers. I think he’ll start though, and definitely look better next to LeBron, AD, and Gasol.

And bring Matthew’s off the bench with his bigger man defense? Vogel’s a D first guy. And KCP can’t see relegating him to bench player after what he accomplished this year? My “guess” is he’ll go with Matthews and KCP normally.

I still think he's better suited off the bench...but I don't mind him starting either.

We're in a good spot whether he starts or Caruso starts or Wes Matthews starts. What a blessing man...literally so many options

Ya know, I think you’re right. Now that I hear this interview, I’m almost positive it’s his German accent. Germans generally pronounce the R sound two ways, a uvular trill, like in French, or a trill like in Spanish. He’s from Braunschweig, which uses the uvular trill, like my mom did. That’s why his R’s sounds like a W, especially at the beginning of words. My mom’s R’s sounded a little like W’s too, but not as pronounced. He’s probably trying, but just can’t pronounce our R, just how I can’t pronounce the uvular trill.

(Sorry for the linguistic geek out—not too many chances to flaunt my geekery)

Nice to see a point guard for us be able to hit the 3. But he definitely looked bored or was pacing himself. It's pre season and he's not playing with several of the rotations players and starters he'll be sharing the court with, so I'm not worried.

i enjoyed the linguistic explanation here. go internet.

his accent sounds mostly german to me (not a linguist)--very reminiscent of dirk. i've got a friend/neighbor who is french but has german ties/spouse and i can see some of the blending. but to me, the real story is how articulate these guys get to be in a language that wasn't spoken in their household. i'm sure i sound ridiculous when i attempt to speak spanish, and i'm always impressed by people who are able to develop the ability to communicate effectively in different languages in real-time.

    Don't encourage me, abeer.

BTW, I played this interview for my Pop, who as a Green Beret, had to master German fluently during the Cold War in case conflict ever erupted and he had to be dropped into East Germany to train partisans. He said the same thing: " Yup. This kid's a true German, that's for sure."

My Pop's been a Laker fan since they moved here from Minny, and is stoked we have him. Redlips Mo was fun, but Dennis is the s***. We'll be downing lots more brats, spätzle and beer during Laker games this year.

f***, that's alot of rambling. Sorry. I guess I like talking about my Pop.
