I'm not much for highlight vids but one thing you can plainly see is that THT most definitely can move his feet. That was all offensive clips though, D is also about timing and often prediction and smarts so, we'll see. The physical tools are there in heaps though, including lateral movemant. I wouldn't suspect Vogel would be excited like that over a one-sided player. D is what makes Vogel happy.
Wait until that 230lb is man muscle in a couple of years. Already handling the ball good enough to get where he damn well wants to go. Pity the fool skinny guards got to try to stop that. :Carusohearthands:
i might have to rewatch. there were some strong moments, but he looked to be a step slow on defense (consistently) and the shot didn't look great (slow release and did not go in the basket much). his ballhandling and playmaking was really good, and he's got enough speed and strength to just get where he wants. so he's going to have a career in the league, i think. i just don't know that he can justify minutes over our other 4 guards right now. but yeah, if kuz can't get his shot right, maybe THT just took his utility forward spot?
He's got those crazy Z-Bo like long arms! Didn't shoot a great percentage but really stuffed the stat sheet.
He was a step slow on D a few times, especially early in the game. His D improved later in the game. His outside shot was for sure below par last night. But, what he showed was something outweighing those two negatives. He has IT. He was the best player on the floor last night. Yes, it was just the 1st preseason game, but he showed he belongs in the rotation, and explained for me why a backup PG behind Schroder was not a priority in our FA moves.
I agree TIME. He really did show he had IT last night. Vogel has a good instinct about him. He didn't finish at the rim quite as well as I think he's capable of, but his ability to get there, his craftiness was on display and he seems hard to stop. Loved his stat line: 19,9,4 and 3 steals!
Showed why Frank has been praising his play in practice “kicking butt”. Kid’s a load and in great shape already certainly to get better. 37 minutes last night to go with Kuz’s 38.
He's probably a year or two away: On offense, he's stocky but he's not quite strong on his finishes and his touch around the basket isn't great yet. Needs to use his body to dislodge better before using his length. Jumper didn't look great either. Like finishing inside, would be nice to be able to finish the pullup when he is able to create space Also it was really rough on D the first few minutes That being said the handle plus the length and the vision are very good. He's able to already handle ball pressure well and actually broke down Kawhii (missed the open jumper). Combine that with the passing, length, and pretty good first step/athleticism he's got the potential to be a Dwayne Wade lite sort of player. If you were re-drafting, he's definitely a top 10 pick now (I mean after Zion, Ja, Herro, and Clarke its' a big drop off)
agree with all of this, and poor man's wade was definitely my take while i was watching last night. really like how he's rebuilt his body a bit already; that's a good sign.
I don't think I'm being too pessimistic when I say that his ceiling is likely 40/12/10 on 55/45/92% splits. It'd be nice if he had more potential than that, but I'm afraid that's about as much as we should expect out of him
