Matthews is a built rugged defender. From what I've seen of him, he's really all about effort and nothing skimped. You can't do much in the post him to move him down.
I like his attitude coming to a stacked roster. "I'll do whatever it takes to help" is the right attitude, and so important if there is a possibility that PT isn't what you were hoping for.
I always liked him. But his tank is pretty empty I happen to believe. If he can give us what Green gave us, then its good enough.
Stats seem to indicate otherwise, but stats can be deceiving as well. Hard to beat the value for the price though
25 minutes per game is actually perfect and right around the amount of minutes he can probably get with the roster we have. He's older but I think he's capable of generating 20 minutes of high level defense every game and his shooting surely can't be worse than Danny Green so there's money saved.
I'm not sure how he could be 2nd in the NBA in Defensive rating with a pretty empty tank. He doesn't have the same energy level at 34 that he did at 24, but he is in excellent shape, and he is a smart, hardnosed player. He will give us significantly more that DG did last year (as long as he stays healthy).
Might be my favorite signing along with Gasol a close second this offseason. I'm excited to see his defense in action in purple and gold.
He can defend this scrub #23 on the Lakers pretty well, so I think he'll do OK vs other wings in this league.
