Maybe, but I think that would mean we have other bigs lined up to sign like Ibaka. Either way, I think Rob and the team is smart enough to know not to mess with our size advantage.

I am very pleased to hear this. It's absolutely a win-win situation for us. Why?

    1. JaVale is an NBA champion with lots of experience and a terrific chemistry with everyone on the team. If he opted in to stay, we're not going to find a better center for $4M to be ready to contribute when we decide to go big. However:

    2. If he opted in to be traded, it means we are going to sign an even better big man and we'll use McGee's contract as a throw-in, and that is absolutely awesome.

yeah, similar to bradley, i'm not sure we can beat mcgee for 4m on the open market, so it's not a bad problem to have. we've proven we can win with him in the rotation.

So does Javale coming back mean that Ibaka is out of the picture?

I like him but would prefer him to go, he was a non-asset in the playoffs this year unlike Howard.

That does make sense, but think about it: JaVale is a regular season big. He can play many games and basically... he eats minutes. That is very important in order to prevent injuries and always have fresh players ready to contribute.

right. AD is our primary center in the playoffs, let's not pretend. but he (for good reason) doesn't want to be for 82 games before that.

I like Javale... He does what we need. Doesn't take dumb shots, finds easy lobs or putbacks, blocks a few shots here and there, and rebound. He can also run the floor really well so the Lakers in transition are always dangerous. You can't really fault Javale for not playing in the playoffs as much. Houston and Miami both play really small and Javale doesn't have enough meat in him to bully Jokic. I actually think Javale not playing in the playoffs shows how much of an asset he is. Didn't complain and on his vlogs, he was always cheering for his teammates in the locker room and on the bench. I rather stick with what we know than what we don't. We know what Javale will provide and as long as AD stays healthy for the playoffs, Javale has earned his money.

Agreed, just depends what we do with Howard/Boogie, either way he is movable.

yep, but i do think that cutting cook (rather than hanging onto his salary) means that we're not expecting to make any substantive trade. if mcgee goes it will be in a dump, probably with us paying a 2nd rounder.

Well at least he opted IN so now we can use him for a potential trade should one arise duringt he season.

And him occupying a roster spot isn't a bad thing considering he started most of the year for us last year and he was decent.

Really liked what McGee brought to the team, he left almost of all that Shaqtin’ stuff behind and was a total pro and excellent team guy. I wish him luck in Cleveland, or more likely on a contender he joins later this season. Unless it’s Boston or the Clippers.

Wasn't much help in the playoffs, but wow, was he the best in getting the team fired up to play. Great team attitude. Wish him well.

Let's hope he didn't ask Rob if he was safe to pick up his option and Rob said yes he was safe .... and then got the knife out as he walked away from the signing table.
