The last season's version of KCP was fantastic considering his current contract. I would absolutely love to keep him at the same price. Still a keeper at like 10M.

That being said, veterans should be lining up to join this team for cheap, this is not the time to overpay for guys who underachieved as Lakers for most of their tenure.

If KCP wants the kind of money we gave DG last year, thank you and good luck elsewhere. I really like him, but what he brings to the table should be relatively easy to replace on the market for lower money.

We have bird rights on KCP... if he wants a bigger deal, Lakers can pay him it without going over the cap.... In short, Lakers can pay KCP what he can get from another team and give us the cap space we need like nothing happened... it all depends on whether the Lakers want to PAY him - which shouldn't be a problem with the Klutch connection and KCP's stellar play.

That’s what I thought. I think KCP just played himself into 12 mil a year. Even over that the Lakers can afford to pay him however much Klutch demands since KCP was a pretty big part of this championship.

KCP's is worth a salary upgrade from the 8 to 12 million range but that financially if I was the Lakers this has to be tied to dumping Green's salary for an upgrade.
To tie 15 million plus 12 million for the same position where only one guy you can trust is not good use of cap space.

I can see KCP here as long as Lebron is here

We paid him well over his value for 2 years before this season, it was the Klutch tax for getting a player in here to lay the groundwork for LeBron. If he wants to leave and get paid I wish him well, thanks for the title, but we will find a replacement if that’s what it comes down to. We can’t be putting all our money to improve the team in guys like KCP and Rondo because they want to get paid now.

don't see him getting offers larger than what we'd be willing to pay, tbh. i'm comfortable letting it play out.

I’m expecting he sees what the market is, tell the Lakers and we’ll see if it’s reasonable, and resign him if it is. We have his bird rights so the team is in the driver’s seat in these kind of negotiations

I liked Barnstable's number of about 12 million. Much more than that and I'm going to hesitate. He came on very strong when we needed him in the playoffs, but he has also had turrible stretches not barely worth the Vet Min.

KCP has gotten paid $38 million for the past three years with the Lakers. He was overpaid but Rich Paul planted KCP there to start the LBJ arrival. That LeBron tax is going to have to be paid so the Lakers are likely going to have to pay KCP 25-30% more than he is actually worth. To KCP's credit, he was the Lakers most consistent perimeter defender and was huge for them in the final three Finals games. I would agree on $10-12 million but more likely he gets $12-14 million.

I just don't see that kind of market for him. Who pays him $14 million?

They have been told by ownership to be aggressive and the expectation is playoffs. They could get their 6th pick, KCP, Wood, and still have at least $12m to nab a Grant, Gallo, Bertans, or FVV. Point is, they have $44m and can get 3 guys if they want for a hair under $15m each.

I would be ok pushing him to 12 million
It's going to be difficult to replace what he's brought: very good man to man and help defense, consistent shooter (probably the most consistent on the team), decent pull up jumper, and most willing to play into the team concept both on O and D.

He's got a lot of minuses: gets bullied against more physical defenders, not great off the dribble, not a great playmaker.

But overall he's got a lot of value for this particular team and his prime corresponds with what the title window and he is going to be hard to replace.
Anything more then 12 million though would require a move to get Green out of team and get some more value out of him. 15 million plus 12+ million for Green/KCP is way too much money in one position which neither is a star and one is a minus
