I've said many times throughout this thread that BI still needs to work on his strength, his handles in traffic, his clutch shooting in key games.

He's too inconsistent. But as in Los Angeles he can score 13 points and have 6 assists in one quarter... then disappear the rest of the game.

But he's also 22 years old

My complaints have always been about the price but somehow it's getting conflated into an AD vs BI only argument every time, ignoring the other five assets

After seeing Tatum up close and personal 2 days ago with just how good and strong and quick and smooth and efficient he plays with great skills ..... this game tonight against NO is a perfect juxtaposition to see how Ingram looks with his game at this point in his career. Is he as fluid and smooth and quick and skilled? If he's 90% or more of what Tatum is .... he is really really good and at a young age too. People said Tatum is better on defense. Let's see how BI is doing. Am rooting for him to be great in his career, no doubt.

Well .... what do you think with the comparison? Close in skills repertoire to Tatum but not as strong or as good on defense? Someone here I remember really cracked him on the latter during or after the game.

Their PER is the same this season. Tatum is a better defender... Ingram probably a better passer

    https://www.basketball-reference.co...gram&y2=2020&player_id2=ingrabr01&idx=players

Tatum is younger so you wonder how much better he'll get... but then again Ingram started out poorly and has improved every season... while Tatum started out super efficient and hasn't really gone up.

Ingram's handles are his main issue. If he gains more strength, maybe he can use his body to shield people from poking the ball away but that's his biggest flaw.

I'm not sure we can condemn Ingram's defense completely for two reasons. They are playing with half a center so there's not much room for error... and I think he's been told to stay out of foul trouble because he's too important offensively.

Now of course a good defender should be able to defend while staying out of foul trouble... but I think Ingram's done better at not fouling so maybe he looks like he's not trying on defense to some.

    I'd take Tatum over Ingram.

That doesn't mean Ingram isn't good or great. I think Tatum is slightly better offensively and defensively. He has less holes.

The ceiling is slightly higher for Tatum. He is a more natural shooter and his game is smoother. Defensively he doesn't have the wingspan but has a better motor and quicker feet.

Ingram has become an 85% ft shooter and a 40% three point shooter... Both insane jumps to prior years.

It's still early. In 5 years we will know.

For probably the 1st time in a long time - I disagree with you on this.

Ingram has been the better player this year - and I think he will end up being the better overall player and has the higher ceiling too.

Tatum has played really well as of late - but on the whole, Ingram has played well more consistently than Tatum has this season.

their numbers are very similar...23-7-3-1-1 on 45/40/82 splits for Tatum and then 25-6-4-1-1 on 47/40/86 splits from Ingram. Both are averaging same number of MPG, and both have played about the same number of games. Both are also the leading scorers for their respective teams. Also, Ingram is only 6 months older than Tatum...so they're basically the same age, but Ingram has an extra year of basketball over Tatum.

i think tatum has the slight edge, but it's slight. so, basically, the same way i felt a year ago, when everyone said tatum was god and ingram sucked.

Tatum weighs twice as much, so how is this a fair comparison?

I think Tatum is the better player. He's a 1st option on a team paced to win 58-60 games. Ingram is putting up similar stats on a lottery team, and it's questionable whether he can lead a contending team like Tatum.

We will see, both are solid. FWIW, the Pelicans are getting a lot better this year. I'm not sure that BI would not have the same success if he replaced Tatum on the C Bags. Plus, the C Bags have a WAY better team. Still, if I was offered one or the other of these guys for the same price. I would take Tatum right now. BI would not be far off.

I don't disagree. They are close, but Tatum is more of a proven commodity. If I can choose which player to add to a winning team (like the Lakers), I would take Tatum without thinking twice. That is all.

well, the difference for me is I would think twice but then I would take Tatum too. But that is right now, two years from now. ??????? Not sure. BI is in the discussion.

Just remember that Rome was not built in a day. We have made moves to rectify a horrible franchise. Cleared most of the FO, got Lebron to commit, traded for AD, filled out the roster. Now we need to attract one more high quality player by next year. I bet we get someone solid. If a couple of our current players improve as well, we could be in an excellent position for a few years.
