Great boards, strong performance last night. Morris? I get the appeal, though. 44% on three and he's a big bodied guy who D's it up. He's way overpaid in my opinion but he does some things that we could use. He's probably a better fit for the most part. I think we probably need to know that Collison is in our back pocket to do it. Because we'd include others for salary and opening roster spots potentially for Collison and Iggy. I'm not opposed to it. I'll say that. I don't know if I'm totally in favor, but I could understand the move and I'd be with it if we could get all three, or at least two of those three.
I think the two teams have different strengths, and they are better equipped to take away some of ours that we are to take away some of theirs. It may come down to coaching, and so far I’d have to give Doc the nod on his game plan, and the fact that he has won at the highest level. i’m hoping we show some thing in the last two matchups that make me feel differently. our lack of all handling, penetration, and the fact that they can match up so well on LeBron is clearly a problem.
I would rather keep Kuzma. He has a skill set we need in the playoffs. He can create, and we lack that ability on our team across the board
lol rumors are Kuzma and Caruso for Morris/Trier. f*** that - Caruso is better then trier and your giving up the friendlier deals for 2 young players
Agree. Swapping Kuz for another wing still leaves us one wing short. I’d rather we wait and see who’s available after buyouts.
its not like Morris shooting 43% this yr is an anomaly, he did shoot 36 and 37% respectively during his 2 season with Bos and had some 38% seasons as well....Kuz on the other hand has only had that 1st yr where he shot 36% from 3's and it doesn't seem to be improving or consistently shooting well from 3's. But i'll agree I wouldn't trade Kuz for a rental unless NY offers up an asset in return...still though I do think Morris could give us more consistent spacing and while he might not able to keep Pg/Kawahi in check at least he might make those 2 have to guard him as well on the other end which doesn't appear to be so the last 2 gms, whichever one of those 2 isn't guarding James doesn't have to work very hard guarding any of our forwards
I was just responding to the idea that he's a lockdown defender. Obviously defense is much more complex than a head to head matchup but it was interesting that we believe these guys will be our defensive saviors. Likely they will score the same amount of points as they always do so you want someone who will outscore the replacement player. This year it does look like Morris but considering one player is on the rise and the other is on the decline and will be more expensive... I'm not sure about this, especially if it requires us giving up someone like Caruso or picks.
i'm not sure where morris got a rep as a defender all of a sudden, tbh. most of his career he's been known as a minus there, and i don't think this year is much different. covington was the only legit 3 and D guy with size on the market, and he went for a pretty high price.
Loved his lob pass to Howard yesterday. I knew he was capable of creating scoring opportunities for other players. He just needs to look for it more often and continue to make good decisions as he's driving to the hoop.
I'm not that high on Marcus Morris. He's a scorer but this could be an anomaly year in which playing on a terrible team is how he gets his confidence to be able to score more. At the end of the day, there is no evidence he can replicate this playing with the Lakers. Part of why Iguodala is such a coveted piece is because we know how well he can play being the 3rd, 4th, and 5th option on a championship contender. There is no indication Marcus Morris can produce such results. As for Kuzma, look, if he was on another team, ya'll would be saying he is garbage. The fact is, he is below average at rebounding, scoring, passing, and defending. Any of the contrary, bring it up for debate. Otherwise, I'm sick of the rhetoric here about Kuzma. His contract is great but he's still a below average player. I'm sorry but having a high value doesn't make you a good player. He hasn't been what we expected. 20-24 PPG, 6 RPG, 3 APG, and 37% from three was what I and many others would have been very happy with but he's simply not that type of player on a championship contender. I and others just need to accept that once Kuzma becomes a free agent, we need to ask ourself if this is a guy capable of being a third option player because I just don't see it and if that is the case, our best bet will be to unload him during the offseason.
20/6/3 on high percentages?! That was your expectation? why is everyone so worried about his contract? If he’s so s***ty, it should be a bargain!
Do the research. His rookie season, he scored 16 PPG, grabbed 6 boards, and shot 37% from three. That was his BEST season. So was it unreasonable to expect 4 more PPG and 1 more APG while playing better defense when he had an entire two years to improve while playing alongside LeBron and AD so he would get easier shot opportunities? I don't think so. People aren't worried about his contract. It's great value. The problem is we still have to play Kuzma otherwise he's just some player we have on paper and thus far, he hasn't been very good on the court. If Kuzma was the player he was bragging to be in his social media, he'd probably be able to get a max contract extension if we had won a ring and he was an important third option scoring 20/6/3 on very good efficiency. Instead, he's not doing that and has looked sloppy. Did anyone see that pass he threw to the stands? Like, c'mon dude...
He put up stats on a bad team. Lots of folks do this. It’s unreasonable to expect a certain trajectory in wildly different circumstances. I’m not concerned with his social media. we’ll deal with his contract when the time comes. If he flames out, we won’t deal with it at all. We’re not missing out on game changing trades by not moving him this week.
So it's unreasonable for me to expect him to put up those same stats two years later when he's playing with two players who would draw double teams all game? Not sure what there is to say. His best season was his rookie season. He's below average in every statistical category. If he was 30 years old, he wouldn't be getting any minutes. The only thing going for Kuzma is his age at this moment. He's still young and we're betting that he can develop into something better. He should be moved during the offseason. As you said, he puts up stats on a bad team and I'm afraid that's the type of player he will be.
