I'm not sure I understood the love for Covington. Granted I haven't watched him at all. I get that his D is better than Kuz and that's not hard to believe. But he's not the scorer that Kuz is which is something we often need in addition to Lebron and AD. His shooting percentages are about equal. Their rebounding is equal. Is this a lateral move? Also we'd have to throw in more players to make it work. Perhaps we do it to get a better 3 and D type player while simultaneously removing some redundancy in the roster and opening up spots for buyout/comeback players such as Iggy and Collison? If that's the case then I guess I could see the appeal for the FO.

advance metrics says Covington is an elite defender but I dont give to much credence to that aspect, his O is quite limited, he is unable to generate his own shot, he has no mid-range so basically he's a catch and shoot 3pt guy, which I guess is the craze these days

There's no fricking way I'm giving up Kuzma for Covington.

The only way that move becomes somewhat palatable is if we sign Collison too.

And even then, I don't want to give up Kuzma just like that.

Because there's so many teams interested, Minny is asking for an absurd amount. They want youth, 1st, & 2nds. Since we can't really include the picks, they'll want more player wise. No way he's worth their greedy king's ransom they want.

I think Irwin or LFR (don't remember which one of them) says it all : Kuzma is expected to be our third scorer but he barely spends time on the floor with both Lebron and AD .

With AD playing so much 4 , Kuzma hasn't played in his role much ( 6-7 minutes a game they said and his net rating with both of them is very good)

We have been debating for weeks but whether you like Kuz as player or not , this is the simple truth .

I'm kidding about Korkmaz, but the kid had a nice stroke.

The only way we get a good player is by taking a risk on someone who has yet to break out.

We have no 3rd option, he’s 4th at best and I’m not sure anyone cares about options at that point.

Third options don’t get 6 fgas. People need to get off that train. It’s clear the team hasn’t asked him to play that role.

Except he has the third most FGAs on the team with 409 and KCP has 340

The literal definition of a third option on a top heavy team.

what percentage of team shots do other "third options" get? bet it's a LOT higher. bet they almost NEVER have 6 attempts in a full game.

again, we don't have a third option. we weren't promised one. we don't try to make one. people need to stop being mad he isn't one.

    3rd options FGA

    LouWill 15.2 (Kawhi, PG)
    Jaylen 14.8 (Tatum, Kemba)
    Lowry 14.4 (Siakam, VanVleet)
    Melo 14.1 (Dame, CJ)
    LeVert 13.6 (Kyrie, Dinwiddie)
    E. Gordon 13.6 (Harden, Westbrook)
    Sabonis 13.5 (TJ, Brogdon)
    Drummond 13.5 (DRose, Blake)
    JJJ 13.4 (Brooks, Morant)
    Barrett 13.0 (Julius, Morris)
    Barton 12.7 (Jokic, Murray)
    Josh R. 12.6 (Embiid, Tobias)
    Bogdan 12.6 (Hield, Fox)
    CP3 12.5 (SGA, Gallinari)
    Jabari 12.3 (Trae, Collins)
    Gordon 12.1 (Vucevic, Fournier)
    Dragic 12.1 (Nunn, Butler)
    Clarkson 12.0 (Donovan, Bojan)
    Bledsoe 11.7 (Giannis, Khris)
    Garland 11.7 (Sexton, Love)
    Hardaway 11.5 (Doncic, Porzingis)
Rubio 11.4 (Booker, Oubre) Ayton was out most of the season
Lonzo 11.4 (BI, Jrue) Zion was out most of the season
    Bertans 11.3 (Beal, Hachimura)
    Kuzma 11.1 (LBJ, AD)
    Coby W. 10.8 (LaVine, Markannen)
Paschall 10.7 (DLo, Burks) Steph out most of the season
    Miles B. 10.6 (Graham, Rozier)
    Covington 10.3 (Wiggins, Towns)
    Forbes 9.6 (DeRozan, Aldridge)

It's true that Kuzma doesn't shoot as much as the average 3rd option... but his career average for field goal attempts is 13.8 and the median shooting attempts for a third option is 12.

Some of you are saying he's not a third option because he's only taken 1 less shot per game than the average third option?

His attempts per 36 are the same as it's always been... but because he's been bad half the season the coach is forced to bench him

Kuzma's career average FG attempts would put him in the top 5 for third options

For all intents and purposes he's our de facto third option.

It's ridiculous to say he isn't because he's taken one shot less than the average third option this season. If he played better he'd be taking more shots than all but four third options.

Read somewhere today that the Kings had offered Bjelica and a pick for Kuzma, and then we countered with asking for Bogdanovic which they refused. I think this was reporting on the prior discussions, nothing recent.

I’m now on the “keep the team together and try to win as a family for Kobe” train, but Bjelica and a pick is actually a pretty interesting offer. Especially if that would have been an unprotected first.

    Kuzma: 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 blocks, 0.3 steals, 43.0% from field, 33.7% from 3, 74.4% from free throw, 25 minutes a game

    Bjelica: 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.9 steals, 48.6% from field, 43.4% from 3, 87.0% from free throw, 28 minutes a game

Not saying I would do it, but it’s intriguing. Bjelica is putting up better numbers but on a worse team. I don’t know what his defense is like but Kuzma isn’t particularly great on that end either. Bjelica is already 31, but he’s locked up for less than $8 million next year (as opposed to Bogdanovic who will get a big payday this summer).
