One thing to take into consideration is that Lonzo is garbage in half-court. Lonzo excels in a high pace transition game but in half court sets he becomes borderline useless because he NEVER looks to break down the defense and get inside instead moving the ball left to right and his offense becomes those wonly step back 30 footers and airballed midrange shots. I think Lonzo would be further regressing with our slow pace this year. His style of play is not made for the post-season.
Maybe Lavar would dominate the league headlines if we signed all 3 Ball brothers...but we would be in the lottery.
I agree. But Vogel's got a bit of a good dilemma here in getting minutes for his guards. When these 4 are on their games and should get better barring injury over the course of this season ..... they can all do some really great things per their skill sets and their athleticism. AB, Rondo, Caruso and KCP with Cook thrown in for good measure. Frank values defense and Caruso and KCP can be in Bradley light territory with their overall defensive contributions. Which is saying a Lot. And Rondo when he's really on his game can still bring it offensively and with cerebral play if healthy. So up to Vogel to make those in game calls. So far his flexible rotations and time outs have been excellent.
His minutes went down because Bradley came back not because of Rondo. Caruso is a 2 not a point guard. Lebron can't play PG when he is on the bench.
He's our 2nd best point guard behind Rondo, arguably there with Bradley or maybe even better, not counting Lebron, plus can play the 2.
Caruso had a really nice game tonight even though we didn't pull it out. Finding guys while driving, knocking down some open looks, D-ing it up!
We have a glut at the guard spot - it's a good problem to have especially when injuries happen but distributing minutes is tough when you got Rondo/Avery/Caruso/KCP/Green - all of whom deserve minutes (yes Rondo deserves SOME minutes but not 25+)..tough job for Vogel but he's going to have to find a way to get Caruso more minutes
Don't forget Cook and Daniels as well. They don't need as many minutes but still . . . lots of guards!
