I think those shoulder and rib injuries are bothering him on offense unless it's lobs or jump shots.

The injury is affecting him, but it really doesn’t impact his defensive slides and keeping his hands up (ie shoulder abduction <90 degrees). I’m sure those blocked shots (>90 degrees) cause discomfort, but not as much as the other side of the ball where you’re potentially hanging on the rim or keeping the ball up to prevent the opponent blocking your shot.

 

So why is he even playing? Maybe he is trying to develop his inner Kobe.

 

the offensive rating is down in part because he's been so bad from the perimeter, though--to the point where teams are kinda daring him, which mucks up the offense. if that's going to continue forever, then we might as well just commit to him at pf and hope we can suffocate teams like we have been.

Based on his medical history, he’s had left labrum surgery before, so although it’s safe to predict a right labrum tear based off his file, you can’t have a confirmatory diagnosis unless you open him up thru invasive surgical procedures. The labrum is buried deep in the shoulder joint, so even on imaging you may see something but a diagnosis is pretty much an educated guess.

So if you take the arthroscopic route to diagnose a tear, it’s better to repair it if one is detected while he’s still on the table.

Staying on the conservative side, recovery for labrum surgery is roughly 6 weeks for reattachment, 6 weeks for the cartilage to strengthen and then 4-6 months for rehab.

The shoulder is a frequently articulating joint that you really can’t immobilize in basketball...and on top of that he’s right handed. So imo he’ll manage it through the season and play through it and risk further fraying/tearing of his right labrum (recall that according to him, he played with a torn left labrum for 3 years before he took any surgical intervention in correcting it)...and if the bball gawds allow it, some time in June after the parade, he’ll get an exploratory scope done on it. If they find something, they’ll repair it and he’ll have till December 2020 - Feb 2021 to get all the way right to rejoin the team so he can start earning that new contract we’ll surely offer him (and hopefully he accepts) this coming summer.

 

yeah, i'd expect shoulder surgery and some missed time next season. i suppose the disaster scenario is that he tears it and/or does other damage and has to miss the rest of this year. but just opting for surgery right now doesn't make a ton of sense, as he'd miss most of the year, leading us to likely miss the playoffs and render the recovery moot.

as long as he can play and isn't in extreme pain, it makes sense to ride out as long as possible.

I'd rather see Daniels or Cook take those threes.
I get why AD takes them because he's our second best player and he works so hard on defense but he's lifetime 31% from three and although I'm sure he'll get better over time, I'd rather get the rest of the team going for a more balanced attack.
Klay started out horribly last year and he kept chucking and they started falling.
Granted Klay plays good defense and is a much better player but Jordan did quite well with Kerr and LBJ did well with Korver.
Let them shoot their way out their slumps and it will pay dividends come the playoffs.
