Howard had a few really good sequences protecting the paint. He picked Conley and made a difference on some of his other attempts. They're still figuring out the offense, but DH off the bench helps the defense stay consistent throughout the game.
At this point, the only thing Javale does better than Dwight is catching lobs. Not to be negative about Javale but he's a shot-block chaser whereas Dwight is actually playing solid defense staying near the paint and zoning out other players. I knew Dwight would be an asset but he has surprised everyone with his intensity. When he stated that he would like to be like Draymond, he wasn't kidding. Reminded me exactly of Draymond with his level of intensity and making the correct plays all night. We played poor defense the first three quarters but Dwight really carried us in the fourth. Our shooters need to be more consistent! Seems like we can never get a 2-5 or 3-7 shooting performance from our guys. It's either they are hot or cold.
I think he kind of did in Orlando when he got them to the Finals, but yeah, wasted year after wasted year beyond that. He was his own worst enemy wanting touches for an offensive game he never grew. Had he focused and played like this he probably has a title along the way as a 3rd or 4th guy not having to be the man. But as for now, just hope he keeps it up, he’s making me forget 2012 with his play, can’t ask a thing more from him than what he’s doing now. He may be taking McGee’s starting spot away as well.
He's been solid, but McGee and Dwight together had 26 pts and 14 rbs. Both had some reasonable minutes. Love that contribution from our center position.
The Lobster was solid tonight... Didn't miss a shot and spoke of how he is rounding into shape, getting his legs back with therapy.
He’s doing a great job. I’m very encouraged, but it’s just 3 games. I’m not ready for replacing Javale just yet. JaVale gave us a whole season last year of solid play, so I’d give him time to play out of his slump before anointing Dwight
Like everyone else I think it’s a little early to replace McGee, but if he continues this sort of form through the season I will be ecstatic.
Yeah, I like them as a tandem. They are a solid one two punch that forces other teams to adjust to us. We use them according to who they have to guard them. McGee is going to have his moments. I have to say, we should not be thinking that anything is set in stone or even worked out yet. This is the newest team I ever remember this team having. Even when we traded for Jabbar there was more continuity in the FO and with player personnel. We still ONLY won 40 games that year and Jabbar was super dominant at that time. I think we have a lot players who can contribute. I think Dwight and McGee are a great combination. Their time on the court is really going to depend on a whole bunch of things. The bigger question is going to be about what we do if Cousins comes back and shows potential. Probably won't need to make a decision until next year, but at some point we will need to figure out which two to keep.
he was coming off major back surgery he wasn't terrible that season but he for sure would have looked like he did in orlando had he been 100%
If Cousins comes back at all this year, it’s going to be in such a diminished capacity I don’t think we’re going to have to make any tough decisions. My two cents.
Luckily he'll have a lot of those chances cause he's played for 1/3 of the teams in the league. Can't say enough good things about his perfect shooting, double double, 4 blocks evening. This Dwight could have been a first ballot hall of famer. We've yet to see if he can even continue this for a whole season... we're only a week in. But had he approached the game this way throughout his career, he'd be in a very different position today and definitely not fighting for his NBA life on a non guaranteed deal. I still start McGee even if Dwight keeps this up. I thought McGee had a nice first quarter. I like the spark and energy Dwight gives our second unit and he's getting ample minutes with the starters. Both bigs are the other's #1 cheerleader (McGee jumps off the bench a little quicker), as long as that continues, we're golden.
Unlike the first time around it seems like Dwight is actually having fun out there. I know it’s a small sample size but he’s been much more productive than I imagined he would be. I do like him coming off the bench providing a defensive spark like he did last night, but I wouldn’t be mad if he found himself in the starting lineup at some point.
