Former defensive player of the year. Potentially coming to a squad with all time greats, and he'd CLEARLY be down the line as far as important players. Most likely coming off the bench. If there was a spot I could see him fitting in, I would never have guessed that role, but it might could actually work if he is significantly humbled. He still can get garbage buckets and rebounds and defend. I just don't see him staying healthy. Maybe Lebron can stifle the drama though, and he won't be the best center on the team by a long shot.
He's the best option out there. He can still grab 10-15rebounds and get some blocks. I hate him though, will be hard to root for him.
I’ve decided to drop all my standards for this year only. I believe this is our best shot at a championship because of Lebron’s age and the league being pretty wide open. If I have to root for Dwight, so be it. It sucks but it’s championship or bust for me.
I am 100% with you, Cookie. This year we need to compete to win it all, and if the management and coaching staff think Dwight is the answer, I'll go for it. I'll root for anyone at this point. We can't let this season slip because we don't have a 2nd center. No way.
BTW, Dwight played 81 games in 2017 and posted (rounded): 17/13/1 and 1.5 block in 30 minutes. Honestly, I'd take 75% of that right now.
Man, I’m shocked at how quickly people lose stuff in their memory, or are willing to go into denial mode. Even 2012 Dwight was soft as Charmin, had little to no offensive game aside from dunks and layups, complained about touches after a short while, had a losers mentality and wanted to just have “fun”. He was as empty an empty stat guy you’ll see, chasing rebounds sure, but also trying to block everything on defense for stats and leaving help defenders or the man covering for him once he jumped for a block screwed on the boards. I think we’d have more success with Kuz at C than Dwight, and that hyperbole is absolutely to point out how little I think of him.
Exactly. He's still pretty damn athletic all things considered. He can absolutely help this team and that's all I care about.
I have not "lost stuff" in my memory Weezy, but we need a center. Dwight is capable of playing behind MCG and there is no way he tries anything in the locker room with Bron and AD being there. He would get cut instantly, and he won't get another contract anymore. I think he knows what he can and can't do at this point in his career. About him being soft - sure. I'd still sign him for the minimum this year.
He had no problem being a whiny b**** around Kobe Bryant, yet he won’t test LeBron? Yeah I’ll buy that when I see it. Going back to Dwight is not learning your lesson, or wanting to be abused. Guy says the same thing every stop he has, “I’m excited to be here, it want fun in ___ anymore, looking forward to a fresh start, I’ll play whatever role I’m asked, blah blah blah blah blah”, he’s a the Melo of centers. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me 8 times shame on the world.
I’m under no illusion that Dwight is the answer to all our problems but if healthy and mentally bought in, he can still play. I believe he realizes this is the end of the line for him. If he screws up here, he’s out of the league or an end of the bench player at best. @Weezy, I do think he is the Melo of centers. Trouble is, tall people don’t grow on trees. If he flakes, you cut him. I’d be fine with Noah too. We just need someone and time is of the essence.
