I haven't ever been a fan of the guy... but last season, I saw enough flashes of hope, I'm willing to be optimistic about this year.

He has been working on his game. I hope that includes his court and situational awareness.

I really wish he'd approach Kobe, and ask for his help breaking down his film, guys with similar talent sets, and defensive work.

    It would pay HUGE dividends.

But... Not giving up on him yet. Especially with this veteran roster. Lot of knowledge to fill his head.

wasn't he paid double last year or more?

People get pissed when the amount paid does not equal the performance received, and they don't forget easily.

This is why I can't wait to see where Chris Paul ends up just to hear the fans complain about his 40 mil a year lol

his first two contracts were klutch tax, for sure. nobody was offering him 18 or 12 per but us. this one was fair market value. personally, i think he owed us a vet min, from which he could reap the bird right benefits next year, but it appears we want to keep the books pretty clean for 2021, so this was the compromise.

Good time to remind folks that Wes Matthews was had for a 2yr vet min deal (5.2m) by the Bucks. Wayne Ellington set the market with his 2yr 16m deal...but those silly Knicks had all their 2yr deals either include a team option or partially guaranteed money (while Jules 3yr deal is only guaranteed for 4m in that final 3rd year). As for Ellington his 2nd year is only guaranteed for 1m (like Elfrid Payton's 2yr/16m is and like Bullock's 2yr/21m deal was).

Meanwhile Kcp gets a 2yr 16m deal (that could be 18m with unlikely incentives) and his deal has a no trade clause and a trade kicker.

Yeah...I would say getting him at market value or at a bargain rate is flat out false. Btw, Hood is a 2yrs 11.7m contract and that's with him losing his bird rights when he agreed to be traded to the Blazers. All Oshley had to offer him was the tax payer MLE in a market that had a larger bag to offer Rodney. Yet he took the smaller bag. Now that's...

yes, let's pick and choose the contracts to whom we'll compare each signing.

not to mention that matthews and hood are not exactly great folks to be pining for...

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/caldwke01.html
    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hoodro01.html
    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/matthwe02.html

they're basically the same, advanced stats-wise, with kcp grading out better over the past couple of years than either. wes is older and declining, and hood's been passed around pretty willingly.

the market for bench-quality wings was about the MLE, and that's what kcp got. but keep obsessing over odd minutiae in your quest to ruin rob pelinka's internet reputation, i guess.

you cant FIX low iq players (look at Jr Smith), no matter how much work KCP puts in, the low iq part of his game will always surface once things get difficult. Only thing he can improve on IMO is more consistent shooting, this guy is so streaky. His defensive gambling is/will be there regardless, thats how he gets so many steals playing passing lane....he gambles a whole bunch and pretty much gives up on the play once his man gets his shoulder past him

I still firmly believe the only problem with Pope was cost to production and well his community service didn't help anything.

The last two years he's been one of our more highly paid players, but his production didn't match it. Now at 8m, his production seems to match his paycheck and hopefully fans will be less inclined to be angry about him. Pope is, shocking to most of you guys since I know you don't like him :D , better than Ellington, better than Matthews, and better than Hood. I'd argue at this stage, Pope is a much better player than Matthews and Pope is only 25 years old still so there's room for developments (I'm specifically thinking of maturity on and off the court, I know his game seems pretty much set). I'd say Wayne and Hood are the closer comparisons, but Hood has shown some real chemistry issues (still remember him pouting during the f***ing Finals about his minutes) and Wayne is 31 years old already so making his second year non-guaranteed makes more sense.

Pope is without a doubt market value and off the bench he'll be a much better weapon for us in a limited role. Yes he gambles too much on defense, but having a player like that coupled with a players like Bradley and Green is a good combination of different types of defenders to throw at wings. I predict Pope will have a solid season for us with some highs and lows, but overall a better performance than the last two.

Keep telling yourself that all our first choices from coaching to free agency were realized this summer.

And if the contigency is rounding out the roster with all our cap, it's a cool story to tell yourself that 23m if a max slot should be used for a SG position so that our 35 year old star can handle the rock more and our PF is potentially forced to play a position he has no desire playing.

Yep, our current infrastructure has nothing wrong with it.

Working the hills, now working with LeBron on set. I'm digging the chemistry building and hard work mentality we're developing.

He's worth 5.34 mil at best. Any negotiator worth his salt would have nailed it.

    Lifting weights won't change that.

He's lifting weights to carry Bron's luggage up to the airport and hotels and what not. Guy needs to do something other than warm the bench

I feel like you guys are severely underestimating how hard it is to play well when you're on parole.

I'm still stunned that Detroit offered him 80 Million.

    I'm not tripping over 8 x 2.
