His job is not to make everybody love him. His job is to get us into the playoff and win the title. I don't care if it hurts other people feeling, put the BEST 5 man on the floor and get us to the chip PERIOD!!!
Sure, but having players unhappy due to a lack of minutes can be a detriment towards the end goal of winning a championship, if not properly managed. Not saying I don’t think Vogel can do it, and overall it’s a good problem to have. I’m curious how he does it though. Do we go super deep and actually play a 12 deep rotation to keep everyone’s minutes down? Or do we see who rises to the top and then keep the rotation a bit shorter for consistency, even if it means some of our acquisitions would see the short end of the stick and possibly be left with no playing time?
I agree that rotations could be an issue at some point. The bottom line is though guys like Quinn, Caruso, and Rondo are all making about the same: not much. If they start getting antsy about minutes, they can be moved relatively easily or just flat out cut pretty easily as well.
Actually maybe the only thing going for Kidd is that he seems to support good relationships with the players. Giannis loved him.
My concern of those three is Rondo, and if he tries to leverage his relationships with AD/Boogie leading to drama if/when his minutes are cut. I hope it was made clear to him that there is a possibility he falls out of the rotation entirely, but that we still value him for his veteran leadership off the court.
At a minimum signing he has to know that's a possibility. The second year was probably because we told him what the deal was and he wanted more security. I actually think he still has value as a bench guard and provides us with unique passing ability among our guard options, but his lack of defense and shooting just make him a liability too often.
This team, now with Bradley, is perfectly constructed for Vogel's coaching skills and Lebron's depth and shooting needs. If major injuries do not occur, the Lakers are winning the title next year. No question about it.
I have faith that Vogel will be infinitely better than Walton and his penchant for head scratching lineups. I'm not worried that we have depth. I'd be worried if we didn't. I also agree that Rob has given Vogel the right tools to succeed - shooters and defenders. Can't wait for the season!!
Injuries are GOING to happen with so many injury prone players on the roster. We have a roster (finally) that is built to sustain those injuries because we will have guys that can step into those roles
It still concerns me that the coaching team of Vogel, Kidd and Hollins are not good offensive coaches. I have a feeling with the whole Lebron at point guard thing, we will see a lot of Lebron/AD pick and roll, a lot of Lebron/AD taking turns having iso plays run for them, while the rest of the players just stand by the perimeter and only shoot when they are open. It would be good to have more ball movement than that.
Now-a-days especially with a Lebron & AD on your team your offense on the court isn't as big of a deal as your defensive principals. With that said coaches can really be big for drawing up plays out of timeouts or side out of bounds plays. There is definitely some coaching and offensive strategy that goes into that. I know shooting is important but if we don't advance far in the playoffs this year I don't think it will be because of Lebron and AD. It will be because of our defense. At the end of the day we have the head coach to help us in that area and if we're great there the sky is the limit for us.
Double like. We need to be conditioned so we can bend those legs for more than a minute or two. Defensive principles have to be a priority. Practice fighting through screens and pushing the screens high out of most players shooting range. Every player needs to watch Michael Cooper footage. Defensively we can be devastating making teams hate to play us. Psychological warfare. Make them doubt their ability to beat you. It is the I am better than you approach.
I wouldn't hate it tbh, he was our best 3 point shooter after all. The dude literally went home and cried the day we got eliminated from the playoffs. I'll take that kind of heart and character on my team any day. He believed the Lakers could win the chip up until the very end. Not once as a LeBron fan did I feel that kind of confidence from say the choker George Hill
I loved Lance and his infectious enthusiasm, his fire and his heart, and the fact that he loved being a Laker. But to paraphrase Harrison Faigen, Lance's game is like hearing a scream in the woods. You don't know if someone is having a party or getting massacred. Too much uncertainty.
