Most teams would like Kuzma and Cousins. No one but the Lakers likes KCP. If we didn't give him 8 million a season, the dude was going to get a minimum contract. I'd be PISSED if I was AD right now. "I waived my trade kicker so you guys could give it to KCP? Really?" Cause that's essentially what happened. And it's not enough we gave him 6 million more than ANYONE else would give him. We gave him another 8 next year too. Honestly, this signing pisses me off so bad. This s*** makes my blood boil every time I think about it. My evil side wants this dude to get hurt just so I don't have to see him running up and down the court and bricking threes at the worst possible times. What if Boogie plays pretty well and we can't resign him because we are giving 8 million to this bum NEXT season as well?
Hate to do y'all like this cause Reed does kill with those CBA cap excel sheets, but seeing how KCP earns full bird rights after this season and he's essentially a 1yr deal (with a player option in the 2nd), he does have veto power in a trade this season. He's the only player on our squad with a no-trade clause... yep, including Bron & AD.
Ya resigning KC-Pee is a bummer... He can hit a shot here or there but 8 mio. a year is overpaying for him. I think you can find better players in Europe for way less money.
Ya I believe... Considering how KCP is especially famous for grinding through the summer, I'm sure he is gonna make a jump...
Ya lol...I remember last media day Worthy and co. asked him what he worked on in the summer and his reponse literally: "I rested a lot and worked on my diet..." and I was like WTF...how do you "work" on your diet all summer? Its not like he shed 20 pounds or something. He is lazy, that's why he hasn't really progressed if not regressed the last 2-3 years.
honestly, i get that kcp is attached to our s***tiness of late, and he reminds us that an agency runs our team, but this current deal is about market value, maybe under. as i mentioned in another thread, we are pining for marcus morris, but kcp grades out better statistically and isn't at a redundant position.
I haven't looked at the stats but Morris is, from what I have seen, an all-round team player and I think KCP is mostly not. It isn't so much the stats or the talent. Its more the chucker-mentality he brings to the table and the suspect decision making. I think KCP can be a good bench player from a talent perspective. Duing the year he gets hot a few times and has great games and hustles...and he has many games in which he looks disinterested or just chucks a few terrible shots until he is benched.
morris is criticized for his tunnel vision on offense as well. think this is just a grass-is-greener take for most. i think other teams would have signed kcp, but we had an agreement with him. my theory is that he would have taken the room MLE had we signed leonard (with a wink/wink that we'd have his full bird rights next year) with a contigency that we'd offer him basically the non-tax MLE if we didn't. had teams offered multi-year over the MLE, he'd be gone. but they didn't, so here we are. and again, with what some backup-quality perimeter players pocketed this summer, i don't think 2/16 is really a big deal. his 12 million dollar deal last year--when there were still good options on the board--really pissed me off.
KCP is gonna have to earn his Playing Time now.. Green & Bradley will both be in before him &, if Daniels shows he can consistently knock down the open 3, KFC might find himself glued to the bench.
