Exactly. Sure the west is harder to get through than the east, but LeBron with AD and minimums plus other contracts is still a top tier NBA team. Kawhi would make us (on paper) a walking championship, sure, but even without him this team's future is extremely bright.

No 2-year deals discussed. Could be key. I find it hard to believe Kawhi takes a long term deal in Toronto at the same time why does it need to be discussed. The man can name his own terms, if he wants back on a 1+1 they ain't saying no.

Popovich told Kobe to mentor Kawhi Leonard back in 2016, lol. Mamba must have done it one better, start the recruiting.

I know this is crazy, but hear me out here:

I really want Kawhi Leonard to become a Los Angeles Laker in the next day or two.

Kawhi - WHEN again will you EVER find that your dream team has the cap space to max you as well as have 2 of the other top 5 players in the NBA? Back home where all your siblings and cousins are and instead of snow banks there's palm trees in your front yard and around your massive swimming pool and instead of maple syrup there's legal weed (AND maple syrup) and you don't need a passport or a ski jacket and nobody speaks French or calls you "hoser" and you don't have to pretend to be friends with hockey players and the national bird isn't a penguin. You can vote and there's no nasty metric system, candy has familiar names. Huge endorsements, free Kardashian p***tang, a very happy shoe company (and subsequent raise)?

We should have built a real team with continuity, something we have not done for 5-6 years . We got Lebron and AD , it's enough talent at the top.

We should have signed quality role unless we were sure Kawhi was coming which obviously isn't the case .

What's the plan if Kawhi doesn't come ? One year contracts until we got a 3rd star ?

We just disagree here, if you have a legit chance to sign Kawhi and pair him with LeBron and AD for a couple seasons and with AD for year beyond that, you take it. In a couple years those 2 could be the best players in the league. You don’t sign a bunch of role players to bigger money contracts ala MozDeng before you know what Kawhi is doing for the sake of continuity. If Kawhi doesn’t come here, I believe the 3 star plan via free agency IS over though, and you could see us signing guys like Green, maybe Cook and Morris to multi-year deals, and then the 1 year vet minimums. There’s also the option to try and trade for Dragic as a Heat salary dump, and guys like Avery Bradley are still out there too. If we wanted to try and get a star later it’d have to be through a trade, or more likely free agency again when LeBron is done here.

But there was zero way to be “sure” that Kawhi was coming here, it’s always a gamble, same as it was with LeBron, same as it was with PG, some you win, some you lose. That’s in large part, if not THE main reason we traded everything for AD, it was time to stop hoping to land star and just go get the star, people seem to kind of be forgetting that a little bit here with this whole Kawhi situation. AD was supposed to, and probably is helping in trying to land Kawhi, and also in getting some ring chasers to come here. We’ve already seen one guy in Dudley say he came here specifically to play with those 2 guys, and we’ll probably here the same from the rest of the players we sign that are sitting back waiting to see how the Kawhi situation plays out with us before commtting

I'm Anxious, but I'm not trippin'..?
Klutch, LeBron & AD know more about what's going on than we think.
Get Kawhi, or Surround LBJ, AD & Kuz with the best available FA's, who all seem to be holding pat & waiting on Kawhi, so no rush.
Either way, this Team will be much improved.

Sorry to disagree with the doom and gloom while waiting for Kawhi to finish his Apple Jacks but...

Once Kawhi makes his choice I have faith the Lakers will make the right moves. We need solid role players. We may have lost out on some better players but to simply think the Lakers are screwed cause we don't get this chip we have no shot is a bit a overreaction to me. Guess we will find out when the dust settles.

Last year was some family birthdays on July 1st when the Lebron news broke. Playing a game of beer pong with my cousins when I got the Woj notification on my phone and we had to stop everything.

I’m pessimistic at this point, but still praying for the same situation tomorrow. Everyone’s over for a 4th of July BBQ. I’m so ready to get that notification and run laps around the house yelling “WHAT IT DOOO BAAAABYYY?!”

We made it to the 4th with no casualties. Lol. Happy 4th btw.

I think KL and his camp are processing all the interactions/presentations with the 3 teams. There is some hardcore vetting going on I suspect. All said and done, the entire bb world understands (including Kawhi himself) that stars have to be perfectly aligned, to replicate what they(raps) did last season in the absence of a second superstar.

Even if he re-upped there, he would probably have the same cast and crew going against a significantly improved East; with the dangerous /reloaded Philly and an even hungrier Bucks, not to mention the recently galvanized nets and the ever mercurial Cell-ticks. Gasol and Lowry ain’t getting any younger either.

With the Lakers you would have arguably 3 of the top 5 players in the league. This would be the deadliest, most potent big 3 ever assembled in the history of the league. This is monumental and groundbreaking, this is history in the making and I sincerely hope Kawhi factors this in, before making his decision. Nefarious forces around the league don’t want this to go down, as they understand the ramifications arising from such an alliance.

The West has a more balanced landscape since KD left GSW. KL and AD would be contending for the next 5-6 yrs, if they are still together. They would be inflicting serious damage until Lebron is around. You will never find a greater teammate and person to play alongside, than Lebron. A guy who has literally thrown the kitchen sink and bent backwards in order to make you feel comfortable and empower you. Embrace this opportunity Kawhi.

    -Magic and Mamba out
