Yeah.. Rapaport is a Major Laker Hater & a Clown. This could just be Trolling or an attempted Jinx, but his video rant from 2 Days ago when he first heard that Kawhi was going to the Lakers was pretty convincing.

I don't think it's actually about dollar amount at the end of the day for them. This looks to me more like them trying to build out a brand that lasts a lifetime and stays within family control. This is definitely just me speculating, but I could see NB working with Kawhi on accomplishing that while he's in the NBA and then giving him more control/flexibility than Nike/Adidas would.

I'm not even sure it would be feasible with someone like Nike because of Jordan. I really think at least UD want's to take this the Jordan route, but understands he'll never get that big. He's going after a niche, but one that doesn't leave.

Hi finally decided to join the fray because it's getting so wild right now. I've been sitting at my desk barely working all week F5'ing twitter, lakers reddit, and this thread. Sopping up anything from RDAmbition (RIP) and Mr. Rambis I could find. Even broke up in the middle of the night to check my notifications one time.

Finally said whatever, I need a Kawhi Watch support group. Always preferred forums to reddit anyway.

The entire reason he didn't sign with Nike was dollars and years....

when it comes to kawhi i'd go with the former. him and is people seem to be all about courtesy and respect

so if he flew out there to tell them he's leaving it wouldn't surprise me at all

I think he's taking the meeting as a courtesy. Will fly back home. Then make his decision.

Maybe Kawhi is just that classy a dude. Flew to Toronto and saved the Raptors the trouble and money of coming to LA to tell them he’s not coming back. ;)

I actually think Arash is posing the opposite.

He's saying that it would be worse if Kawhi had THEM fly out to tell them bad news and then they'll have to fly back with that news...as opposed to Kawhi giving them the respect they deserve, flying back to Toronto to tell THEM in person that he's not staying and that he appreciates everything they've done and that he'll be a Raptor at heart for life but that he wants to be home and retire there blah blah blah.

I think him flying back to Toronto could actually be the opposite of what everyone is thinking...as that seems to be Kawhi's MO...doing the exact opposite of what everyone thinks or wants him to do.

don't think he's implying fear; he's suggesting that leonard's gone to toronto to say goodbye respectfully.

Actually if it was me, I’d would fly to Toronto to tell them. I just think it’s more classy.

Yes, but what does that mean? Maybe they wanted money that reflected where they want the brand to go. What happens after 4 years if Kawhi isn't the IP owner? He's a wildcard and you don't know where his brands going to go on the business side of things if you are the one paying out in advance, BUT you can be damn sure UD thinks it's going to be #1 on the NBA market.

I don't think it was black and white a "money and time" issue.

I'm being highly speculative here so don't take any of this as truth. Another perspective to think about I believe might hold some weight.

I honestly hope if he's flying back to Toronto, it's either to tell them he's coming here or that he's staying. Nothing would infuriate me more than seeing the Clippers win this right now as they've suprisingly become the underdog in this whole thing in a matter of just one week and I HATE when the Clippers are underdogs as they seem to thrive in that position both on and off the court.

it would depend on how I was treated

I think he feels he was treated very well there, so I think it's a no brainer move to agree to an in person meeting
