Kawhi Leonard Discussion: “I’m A Snake Clipper Guy.”

So if that tweet is accurate, a Toronto based private jet went to LAX to get Kawhi and bring him directly to a meeting with Ujiri.

 

Wasn’t there reports that he was meeting the Raptors in LA? Has he already met with them?

If so...only reason you’d fly to Toronto now is to resign...right?

Or am I wrong? Or just simply insane at this point?

 

Nobody actually knows if the meeting with the Raptors was planned for LA or Toronto. It's all speculation. We need to stop reading into things and just let this play out over the next day or 2.

 

I have a reeeeaaalllly bad feeling about this.

 

I feel like he let the Rap's choose the meeting destination because of how the organisation treated him. Just speculation on my part though. But at the end of the day whatever he does, it is what it is.

 

Remember:

Our worst case scenario is LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma and free agents. If Kawhi re-signs with TOR, we would be favored in the finals lol.

Recap from NB meeting this AM. Kawhi did not attend, just his close confidants.

• NB execs indicated their strong preference was for Kawhi to sign with the Lakers

• They attempted to present some marketing related proposals around this but Kawhis camp was not interested and shut down discussion pretty quickly. Said they were already aware of all projected financials from previous discussions

• Uncle Dennis was frustrated at New Balances low revenue figures from championship related promotion. Pointed out how recently he has received far more exposure in the press via free agency despite his introverted nature. Wants worldwide growth on the level of Steph Curry, James Harden, etc.

• Uncle Dennis insisted that if he joins the Lakers, Kawhi not be overtly tied to any big 3 brand but instead focus on building his individual brand

• Dennis indicated that he couldn’t inform them about a decision until Kawhi spoke directly to the Raptors, out of respect for Masai Ujiri and his Raptors teammates. Claimed no final decision has been made. When pressed further, he mentioned they would know within a day or so

• Sentiment among NB execs after conclusion of the meeting is that the decision seems to be leaning towards the Lakers, though there was a repeated emphasis on keeping things private

Personal opinion: Timeline lines up with Woj report I just saw, so hopefully we’ll know soon. Nothing extremely encouraging but I’m glad to hear specific mentions of the Lakers. I don’t place much value in opinions of NB folks though

 

I don’t know how credible Chris Carter is but he did say Kawhi was going to meet with the Lakers and Clippers and then fly out to Toronto. So according to him this was going to happen anyways.

 

Sitting in the office laughing at myself bc my mood is changing with every refresh even tho there has been basically no actual news in days...

The doom and gloom around this is hilarious.

He said he was going to meet with LAL and LAC - he did
He said he was going to let Raptors get the last word. That is in progress.
(also Cris Carter said it was going to be in Toronto and he is connected to their camp)

Everyone seems to indicate he has been undecided and wants to go through the process he laid out to make his decision. This is the last step he needs to get through in the process to be able to make and announce his decision. We are in the home stretch.

 

Plus CC is dropping major hints of Kawhi going to the Lakers. CC is like the only one who talked about Kawhi Flying to TOR

 

Okay so seems like Kawhi’s camp wants his brand to be global. If they aren’t making much revenue off the championship stuff I doubt it’ll grow any bigger. The only way it really takes off is if he’s with the Lakers. LeBron is global, Kawhi playing with him will already boost his popularity. Add the LA market and sales would be through the roof.

 

My immediate reaction last year was, what the heck does Cris Carter know...he's a football player.

But...he shares some connection to Kawhi's camp...they shared an agent or business manager or something.

Now I'm at the point where he might be the only media person who I trust to having any real insight into Kawhi's camp and the process he's working through
